FFS, I'm wrestling gamely with the MGS2 controls, but by Christ, I can't beat Fatman. Any tips? I beat him on the original but I've forgotten how, and I think my addled game-brain and arthritic fingers are now too used to modern sissy control methods. =( |
Proper doing my nut.

I seem to remember crawling under things and taking potshots at his face.
@widge - aha! Will try that, thanks. Also at times am having trouble figuring out where the hell he's putting his bombs, but I'm sure I'll get there. I really want to get mgs2 done before I move on to 3, which - for my sins - I never played.
@JonFE - I recall shooting them in the leg to make them kneel, making for a better head shot. And running around like crazy whenever they launched their missiles

Well I know the easy way of beating fatman I still remember it from playing it all those years ago, actually come to think of it there's 2 ways. first one is you use the nikita missle launcher on him, the second is far simpler you place claymore mines around the routes between the containers when he hits' one he falls to the ground when he does that either use the tranq darts on his head or a normal gun to do a bit more damage, then just repeat, make sure you have the mine detector out so you can see your claymores though
I managed it by running around, stopping and shooting him in the head before he shot.

@Flying_Pig - Thanks. That's the strategy I'm using, but, apparently, I'm useless with the stinger and by the time I shoot for the head, I'm usually hit by their missiles.
Not to mention that the time I finally got two of them in a row, I ended up surrounded by their replacements and dead within seconds...
how does it compare to ps3?

@bigshaba I'd take the vita version out for a nice seafood dinner... The ps3 version I'd probably buy a Burger King.

I can't for the life of me, beat the Metal Gear Ray bosses. The best I've done is two in a row, but other than that nothing...
@JonFE I used the same technique as Flying_Pig, just make sure you listen out for the missiles bleeping and be aiming at the head as soon as you take out the knee. You have time to shoot as soon as they fire the missiles, but only a small amount of time.
It took me nearly two hours of retries.
@lukejones & @SolidSCB
Thank you both. I'm sure I'll get them eventually, but that sure is a bitch of a bossfight.
@dsmx thanks for that. I nailed him tonight, using the claymore method. =)

Can someone give me a quick outline of MGS controls? Should I start with 1 or 2 or 3? I'm thinking 1?
Chronologically, they go 3, 1, 2
But I'd definitely play them in the order which they were released.
So far I have played 2, 3, 1.
Intend to play 2 again soon though as I want to play 4. (Sadly I thought 2 was a bit shit when I played it initially).

You need to play them in order of release to get the full impact of the story and characters. I recently finished playing through all 4 again and they were great. Going to replay peace walker before 5 comes out too.
I thought 3, 1, 2, 4 would make most sense story wise?
Although doesn't 3 pretty much stands apart in a different trilogy with the PSP games? (Not played either of those).

3, 1, 2, 4 might be the order of the story but I agree with CosmicFuzz, playing them in order of release is best. Might just be me but I've really enjoyed discovering the links between characters over the years. From MGS1 it felt like there was a lot up in the air (or a lot left to the imagination) and slowly parts slot into place. It's funny how they have managed to make you feel like you understand something which makes no practical sense most of the time.
And I agree, 2 was a bit shit.

I replayed 2 when I got the Vita collection. How on earth did the game get 96 on metacritic?
Is there any way to load a save any quicker in MGS 3? It's putting me off. Having to quit to title screen and wait through a couple of screens. It's literally quicker just letting Snake be killed but that is still too long as well.
It's extra frustrating because the game actually loads saves pretty quickly once you eventually get to the title screen and can select 'load game'...
Not that I recall...
Oh well, guess I'll just have to learn to roll with the punches rather than want to load when I mess up a section.
