I got a yearning for a RTS. What's the best command and conquer? Since they released about 1900 of them in the last few years apparently.

I really enjoyed Generals, especially online.

Red Alert 3 is fun in a totally bonkers and over the top kind of way.

Old style Red Alert 2 is always a winner, and Tiberium Sun. It's hard to choose!

    Speak the truth hussy!

I think RA2 is the best one, generally speaking. But I do also have a soft spot for Generals as well although it isn't very Command-and-Conquery. If you're after single player then the expansion pack challenges can be quite entertaining.

Though at the moment I struggle to look beyond Starcraft when it comes to RTS games, but there you go.

Red Alert 2/Generals all the way. RA3 is good as well.

If you want a non-C&C RTS, Company of Heroes. Excellent game, not very expensive. Blows Blizzard's expansion pack out of the water.

CoH is probably a good call as well, yeah. Very different to C&C/Starcraft style RTS, but in a good way. Much smaller and a bit more tactical (as opposed to more macro-strategy stuff) - I've has some amazingly tense multiplayer games with it.

Depends what you want, if you want completly daft and silly then you will want Red Alert 3. As for proper RTS thourgh C&C2 Tiberium Sun holds a special place in my heart althourgh i guess techincally 3 is the best.

Just out of curioity you say have a yearning for RTS why restrict yourself to C&C there are far better RTS franchises out there these days. If you want Sci-Fi then has to be Starcraft or perhaps Supreme Commander. My personal favorite is definatly the Dawn of War games thourgh.

Read Alert 2 was the best, they should do a 2d C&C game with hd graphics, the move to 3d maps runied it.

I have generals but I can't it to work on my setup, it's windows 7 64bit. I'm gutted because I couldn't get it work on my old school set up, upgrade after a neon and now can't play it again. Is there a fix anyone knows to get it to work?

    @DuvaDan88

I'd look it up for you, but google "Command and Conquer Generals Windows 7 64 bit" or something. Google knows how to fix all problems!

Also, I cannot recommend Starcraft 2, I can however recommend Starcraft 1. 2 has everything that made 1 good, but in a lesser form. The graphics make me want to grate my teeth, the missions in the campaign all bog down to one gimmick you have to deal with, and most of the units are useless in multiplayer.

Another game: Homeworld 2. If you've never played it, do it. It is a full demonstration of Relic's mastery of the technology to make RTS with. Even these days it still looks -fantastic-, and its a tremendous amount of fun to play.

I enjoyed Red Alert 1 & 2 far more than the later polygonificated versions. Probably as much a case of timing and what kind of games I was into at the time, the later games are well made as well imo.

    Warcraft 3 is good.

RA2+Yuri's Revenge, try to get the expansion pack as it adds many new interesting influences. Tiberian Sun's a lot of fun in the other side of C&C as well.

The best Command and Conquer game is actually Dune 2!

try and get command and conquer the first decade as it has every command and conquer up to 3 (and I even think they released a pack which includes 3)

I think I've played all the C&C games except RA3. I enjoyed RA2 + YR the most by far.

Having said that I'd still suggest you get Heroes as it's faaar better than any of them.

I always loved Generals the most, though as others have said it doesn't have the same feel as other games in the series. I won't suggest non C&C games as that's not what you asked, plus I really do rate Generals very highly - nice and noob friendly which is a trait many other similar games leave out.

I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

Would have to be red alert 2, last one that was made by westwood before EA gutted the studio. Generals was nice but it lacked something that RA2 had. Not quite sure what it was but I could never really get into generals.

The Zepps were better. So ridiculously overpowered, if you built more than 4 you basically auto-win the level as they carpetbomb everything.

to be honest pretty much every unit in RA2 was brilliant if you used it properly, thinking back I can't really think of anything that was overpowered or rubbish.

Was this the pioneer of upgrading units effectiveness with battle experience. Didn't the mammoth tanks repair themselves when you got them to three stars?
