Resi has never been more popular with the mainstream audience. The Last of Us isn't guranteed to come out this year, I'd say early 2013 is more likely.

Registered 11 years agoAw man, stil reserving excitement until I see some ingame footage. Not just for graphics but for gameplay too, I did get rather bored of the UC mechanic by the third game, though, the set pieces were nice esp. in 2. Haven't completed the third game, a mixture of gaming apathy and being stuck on some silly bit in a ship yard.

Still uc3 was good enough that new IP by nd is quite an exciting prospect. -

Registered 2 years agoThe game looked like Uncharted in the gameplay video - with a bit more emphasis on melee QTEs - and an inventory system, so more guns at a time and grenades, stim... I did see no health bar so it's auto-regen time.
Look at the video, this is so Nathan Drake walking with one of his girls through some slightly postapocalyptic city. Reminded me of the level design in Nepal (UC2) - just switch the textures and cut his beard and it's an older Nathan.

I think it looks great but I wonder about the control e.g. the use of the human shield, is that scripted? The AI needs work still with Joel only focusing on 1 enemy with the hostage when the other could have circled around and attacked!
Also as with Tomb Raider, far too much violence with a teenager present. Is it even possible to avoid it? If it's meant to be a more realistic survival game then wouldn't one want to avoid confrontations? -

I got tingles from the end of the gameplay trailer when that guy shouts 'Don't!' before getting shot in the face.

Registered 2 years ago@varsas - That explains the similarities. If you are looking for a survival horror game where it's important to avoid confrontation then I'd recommend Amnesia (PC).
I don't mind the teen violence that much - just because she's not 18 does not mean she can't ram a knife in your back.
It's generally violent and I'm more shocked about the shotgun shot in the head after the "bad" guy yielded - not that I assume there will be any kind of moral dilemma. There will be the bad and the good guys - the one group does attack you on sight and the other doesn't (if they exist at all).
The market for true stealth games is not that big - and this is a production value kind of game (look at all those animations and audio alone) thus it needs a bigger audience thus I find it unlikely to be not shooting in the head kind of gameplay.
People will bring up MGS but that game developed in PS1 times. I'm sure today without the legacy, MGS would not get financed as a game.
As did the movie industry a couple of years back also the game industry is going to shoot itself in the foot with that kind of mentality. There will come a phase when CoD's sales will dwindle although production values have risen.

Registered 8 years ago@Dangerous_Dan Nicely put. I don't have a problem with teenage violence but I don't think it should be an automatic reaction; it should be a far more difficult decision to make for the character.
As someone else pointed out Joel goes out to start the fights?! -

That's always irritated me that they seemingly have an infinite supply, compounded further when you loot their twitching corpse and it's all disappeared.
If enemies actually had limited supplies themselves, it would open up strategies built around tricking enemies into wasting their resources whilst conserving yours. -
@Cappy Good point, as with the avoiding confrontation that I mentioned, I hope NG have thought about that too.
