    kinda boring
as well as a huge cooler with at least two heat-pipes and a 120mm cooling fan. The bigger the fan is, the slower should be its speed and the lesser is noise output.
    That sounds nice.

Quick - start a rumour about how the fan draws its power from the flesh of dead babies before anyone has a chance to smile!!!

Dixons shop windows... That's a quality bit of lunacy.
Gamers will still need access to Dixons

    @ronuds

Well they do mention a smaller, probably louder fan being in there too.

    Nexgenwarz has the scoop!

Xbox One draws it's power from the souls of dead children!

MS, spying on you with Kinect, waits until you sleep and then steals your children - subsequently using them for said fan's power source.

    It's all over B3D now! :p

Yes. It is a bit like when the ark is opened on Raiders. At first you think it is just full of dust, but then suddenly loads of godlight and ghosts start flying about.

I'm just transforming memories walking past SC on Dreamcast in Dixon's window back in the day running 10hours straight, before that console died. ;)

That "exclusive new look inside the Xbox One" is from the Wired article they put out the day MS announced the damn thing. It's a picture I've posted a million times.

    A MILLION.

FFS, when do these sites catch up? We want PS4 innards!

@sanctusmortis Not to mention that the images in said article are actually from mid-April!

Exactly. We don't even know if that's what an actual production model looks like, or if that's the test build. Still, it's more than we'll know about PS4, most likely, until it gets torn apart by iFixit at launch.

I did find it a little funny that the linked article pointed out that there was an 'engineering sample' label "for some reason".

It means they're supporting one of the fastest growing game engines there is, and actively supplying it to developers so that they can port games faster. It's a good way to support indie devs, as many use it. Now all they need to do is add Game Maker support (the engine Gunpoint and Hotline Miami were made in; IIRC a really simple 2D game engine).

Ok. So, more likely we'll see the same indie titles on both boxes then?

It's a no brainer really. It'd just be cunty not to support it.

Hmm well not quite, it still doesn't solve the lack of self publishing on the system. If that does get announced prior to launch, expect every indie game on pretty much all formats.

Except Wii U obviously (Oh and I am aware WiiU supports Unity).

I hope MS do backtrack on this. Seems really silly considering the other two consoles are doing it. The Wii u is actually getting some great stuff worth playing thanks to the indie scene. Thankfully I have a PC for that though :)

Given what they backtracked on already that might be very much possible. On the other hand, I doubt indie games have nearly such an impact on the business as what MS backtracked on yet, so they might not bother.

Look what happened to self publishing on the 360.... 95% junk apps. Self publishing by itself is not that important, quality indie games support is more important, so if MS manages to get the support from Indies in another interesting way, that would be even better IMHO.

Self publishing doesn't mean any old shit can get uploaded. Sony, Steam & Nintendo are still the platform holders can refuse a release slot if they don't want the content. Self publishing just means developers can pay their own publishing costs, and not have to give away a chunk of their revenue to publisher that didn't do anything.

I fully MS to drop the requirement soon.

Self-publishing with curated marketplace, that is what you want.
What you don't want is to end up like GooglePlay.

Can't imagine any of the platform holders going down that path though, too much liability from people making Super Mario rip offs and loading them.

If the other platform holders are getting a lead from this, then I expect MS to drop it too. They'll be looking to hold on to their "you must put it out on our thing first and be exclusive" but the wind is shifting rapidly away from their ecosystem at the moment. Not to mention the huge bad word of mouth from the developers.

Yep, developers like Jonathan Blow and Phil Fish have been very outspoken about this sort of thing so far. The unwanted barrier of needing a publisher is too much for a lot of those guys as the publishers do nothing but take a chunk of the proceeds for little in return.

Sony and Steam are the right approach and you would have to expect MS to follow as they've been getting this sort of feedback for well over two years now.

Yes... and that takes some investment and money. You will need to check quality, certification, patches etc...

Yea... we all know that. That's what Sony are doing.

They're just getting rid of a developers necessity to stick a big publishers name on the title card.
