A transcript of outtakes from an old Have I Got News For You show that Paul Merton didn't get the memo not to mention Jimmy's noncing.

Pretty shocking that this was such common knowledge and yet is only being exposed now.

All the eurogamers who actually play with each other on xbl rather than just post pseudointellectual pc handwringing bollocks on the forums, love the shit out of biggy.

They tried to claim that was a spoof iirc. Seems a bit suss now, if you ask me.

Aargh, I'm becoming a conspiracy theorist!

HIGNFY script is definitely a hoax. His line about 'being feared in girls schools around the country' is from the Louis Theroux documentary and is on YouTube.

It was still very well known in the industry, as Janet Street-Porter revealed on QT last night.

So, it was known but nobody could prove it. I hope people didn't let him near kids if they had strong suspicions. Not like he could complain, just say we have no work for you Jimmy. Horrifying if people thought otherwise.

Enough people knew to prove it, but no one had the balls to stand up to him/them. If they did, he threatened pulling charity money to hospitals and the like. Truly chilling.

Top Of The Pops now takes on a scary connotation.

Give yourself 5 or gig, you're worth it.

We re-watched the old When Louis Met Jimmy last night. Allegations aside, he was an odd chap.

He always looked creepy and sinister to me, maybe because I thought he was related to the guy who played The Crowman in Worzel Gummidge. *shudders*

@craigy Very, all the gangster and torture anecdotes were probably true, which is what I thought at the time anyway.

There was also a thinly veiled version of him in Irvine Welsh's Ecstasy. He was portrayed as a necrophiliac who went after corpses in a morgue. Also, probably true.

Absolutely every single person that is coming forward claiming that it was an industry secret deserves career destruction and prosecution.

Edit: that is, knew about it and brushed it aside as an industry secret

The only thing that makes me think he's innocent is that it's far too convenient that he looked, acted and dressed exactly like a child molester, and it'd disprove that you can't judge a book by its cover.

So far this story only seems to have implicated everyone in the music business or showbusiness from 1960 to 1979, except Noel Edmunds... rats.

Having watched the documentary, the thing that I find remarkable is that Esther Ranthzen, the founder of CHILDLINE, supposedly knew of the rumours but never said anything.

Apparently she made a comment about it being difficult to act on the accusations of one small child. Jesus christ Esther, what the hell is childline for if not that?

Would it be in bad taste if I got a Jimmy Savile costume and wore it when answering the door to trick or treaters this halloween?

Sadly Asda stopped selling their Savile costume this week.

The John Peel stuff isn't a rumour - he said on the record that teenage girls used to queue up to bestow blowjobs on rockstars & DJs they liked, and one of his experiences were with a girl who turned out to be 13. His first (American) wife was 15 when they married.

The 60s were a weird time. Postwar hormones in overtime, maybe? I guess the difference between dodgy and wrong is the degree of coercion.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

Maybe they all enjoyed reading Lolita and wanted to indulge. But to be fair it would have been difficult to prosecute child abuse in the 70's without a lot of evidence. It wasn't like today where the police took children's accusations seriously.

So knowing a few rumours isn't probably enough to go on a rampaging crusade against someone. But at least things have changed for the better now and accusations are investigated.

Yes there are so many stories from the period of rock stars and young groupies - especially in America. And while this is still wrong, there is a difference between girls throwing themselves willingly at rockstars (there were even groups of girls dedicated to this such as the GTOs - Girls Together Outrageously) and those coerced, abused and raped.

Both wrong in my mind. But one a whole lot worse than the other.

Article here in the Telegraph about just that. She should be bloody ashamed of herself.

Apparently so. For starters his first wife was only 15. Other stuff about him has been coming out recently.
