Registered 8 years agoSome really excellent footage. And nobody does this type of narration better than Attenborough. It'll be a very, very sad day when the earth loses him. -

I always wonder why I like these shows, but I'm beginning to see that it's for the sex and violence.
The elephant Seal fight was flipping epic!!!! --------------------------------------------------------------------

Think my favourite bit was at the end with the two guys filming at Cape Crozier.
I read 'The Worst Journey in the World' by the splendidly named Apsley Cherry-Garrard a year or so ago, where he and two others walk there over horrendous terrain from Scotts base in the winter night and end up trying to stay in what remains of their tent during a storm all to get a sample of an Emperor penguin egg.
It was interesting to see how bad the weather was in the show, as in the book its almost unimaginably terrible. -
Caught the first episode last Sunday and it was brilliant! Orca's are scarily intelligent.
I guessing that Sunday will be the day for this to repeat so I'll keep it at that as it's my main sofa day. -

That panicked little penguin that was running left and right aboard his own little ice float when the orca's arrived in last nights episode was insanely cute too. If only someone could've told him those particular orca's only ate fish...

Also the Elephant seal fight was vicious!

Registered 5 years agoThe killer whales are so evil yet so amazing, Attenborough is a legend and the shots they take are breath taking. This show makes the TV licence fee worth paying on its own. -

Yeah that got me too, must be a shit sort of life being a "dead" lump of ice for 80% of your life only to then snuff it when you finally achieve your goal of wings enabling you to fly away from the harshness of it all.

Excellent programme, I particularly like the Freeze Frame segments too, that shack didn't look too safe in those winds whatsoever. Crazy bastards. -

Registered 5 years agoI am sure it's a conscious descision on the directors part to give us more happy endings and less gratuitous sex and gory deaths then the previous BBC shows. I was so happy that one adorable seal pup got back to it's mum the fact half of them will die didn't bother me. -

Just been listening to the bloke that filmed the penguins on Radio 4.
When the thaw came, the beach also thawed out, which left them working day after day in a fishy smelling muddy sludge made of hundreds of years worth of penguin poo.
He said he gave up trying to keep everything clean on the day he found the stuff in his sleepingbag
