Check out John Carmacks twitter, he is totally blaming Sony for the poor texture load on Rage.

If he knew this was a limitation why was he spouting all over the place that the ps3 would not have any texture pop in before release. The guy is a liar

Everyone knows the PS3 was poorly designed but still he didn't mention pop in prior to release.

Both consoles suffer from it just one is worse than the other

Another remark that builds upon many others that doesn't reflect well on his recent behaviour. The direction id took with Rage and the attempts to excuse its own failings by blaming others is such a letdown for those of us who grew up on its games.

Will the real John Carmack please stand up.

I already spammed the Rage thread with various choice snippets of how little he thinks of the PS3. The good thing about Carmack is you just have to accept it, he's not aligned to any system, only what lets him do his thing. He might be a bit of a relic in some ways, but he knows more about the relationship between hardware and software than pretty much anyone alive.

Thread title is worthy of EGs front page.

Needs a little more outrage and it's perfect.

Lol, what a nobber. Can't believe people actually laud him as one of the godfathers of gaming.

Not denying what he is saying is true like, the PS3 does apear to e a cunt to develop for, but blaming your tools and all that stinks of hissy incompetent excuse making.

The real question not being answered here - does it run in 1080p?

My books, contests, reviews and author interviews on my blog

Carmac probably knows more about the PS3 and it's tools than Sony do.

@Dirtbox Its not the issue of what he and any one else thinks about the hardware, we all know its problems with multi-platform development.

But rather when people to pay for the game on that system, its not good enough to play the blame game when questioned about how it performs.

He's always said the PS3 was a piece of shit right when he first started developing Rage.

Then he shouldn't have released it and expected people to pay for it.

But he did and he does, so people who bought it have a right to ask him about its performance and get a straight answer from him about what id are going to do to improve it.

Why does it have to be improved? From what I understand, it isn't really an issue... just slightly worse than the 360's performance.

    Not a big deal, imo.

Can I throw a lame opinion around not knowing what I'm talking about, too?

    It seems such fun!

@Ronuds Someone thought it was an issue worth asking about, so they have a right to an answer about whether or not id can improve its performance with a patch or whether it will remain as is.

@Dirtbox Give it a rest troll.

I'm not trolling, I'm allowed to laugh at your pathetic attempts at being outraged over nothing. He's right about what he said.
"convince Sony to allow unbuffered hard drive IO and/or free up more OS mem and we can make it better."
Is plain fact, cry all you like about it.

I wouldn't say they have a "right" to anything. If someone thinks the game runs so poorly that it isn't worth having, then they shouldn't have bought the game. You don't buy a nugget of crap and then ask for the person who sold it to you to turn it into a golden nugget.

I'm not saying Rage is a nugget of crap...
  • Deleted user 11 October 2011 19:13:13
@Ronuds Of course they do, its customer service afterall and who is to say they knew in advance.

@Dirtbox Its called passing the buck. But you keep trolling to try and turn this into a platform issue rather it being one small part of a wider problem with community and customer support by John Carmack and id in response to Rage feedback.

That doesn't sound too bad. Just genuine reasons for why the game runs like it does. It's no worse than the stuff he said about a lack of partial installs on 360 or disc space. The OP made it sound like Carmack was really flipping out, which is hard to imagine, him being mostly robot and all.
