    @Toonster
Know that was a shock, but naturally might have been for the best, I had to put a dog down a few years ago and the whole experience still bothers me today.

Yeah, I can see that. Just the thought of it makes me shudder.

I did find this comic earlier today and it made me cheer up a little. Dogs are funny creatures. Apologies for the impending long post.

I read this on reddit today,

"My Guy was awake but not there mentally. Shaking and scared in my arms, we knew it was time. The Vet wanted to give him a shot to end his pain, and life. I was a blubbering mess and just wanted to wait a few minutes to let him know it was ok...not to be scared...I was here. I just kept rubbing his head telling him I loved him and if he was ready to go, so was I. He took two short breaths and just exhaled....and that was it. Needless to say I lost my shit, shook some hands, and went home. It hurt, but I was so glad I was there. R.I.P little buddy:("

@Toonster Ha, thats awesome, the poop , sick , vomit , eat, poop bit and the leaving the house for 4 seconds bit really do ring true.

Going to send that to my sister, she will probably end up crying, but it be sure to brighten up her day.

That's awesome, my dog died ten years ago but that still struck a chord with me. Friendbeast indeed.

Jeez. Another hard to read thread on EG. I hope this, the cancer thread and the depression thread are never bumped all together.

The world is going mad. Me? I'm doing fine.

Became the latest unwilling member of this club today (or yesterday now U suppose). My 14 and a half year old Staff cross Cid (who I named after the FFVII character as a kid) had a seizure earlier while he was laying by the fire. Took him to the vet straight away and he had an enlarged liver, possibly caused by a tumour. They said that due to his age there wasn't really much they could do for him, so he had to be put to sleep.

His health had noticably been declining in recent months, and combined with his age I really thought I was prepared for the worst. Turns out that wasn't even close to being true. It's even worse when I think that 12 hours ago he was perfectly fine, sleeping on my bed. I just always thought I'd know well in advance when the time came, yet he went from being here to gone in a couple of hours.

Think I'm done with the whole pet thing now, save for the apparently immortal goldfish that I took in from a pre-school that didn't want it any more about nine years ago and persists to this day. It'd be impossible to replace him anyway.

Sorry to hear mate, it's hard to deal with and no one is ever prepared. I've no words of wisdom other than to let time heal.

My 15 year old staff x went abput 5 years ago so I know how ya feel, don't think I'll ever even try replacing her. It did surprise me how much losing a pet can upset, more so than some people I've known passing away.

    Commiserations, Aretak.

It's a horrible thing to go through and, as rockavitch says, sometimes tougher than when people pass.

This magnificent beast was almost 17.

The elastic went in her hoop so we had to do the deed today.

    Farewell sweet penny x

Just an observation Chris, many say dogs look like their owners. Did Penny ever sport a goatee?

This thread makes me worried for the dog I'm adopting on Sunday because I know in a few years time I'll probably be posting something similar to this.

On another note, Dog bias? Where's the Cat thread?

I think that thread is called "These gifs deserve a thread".
