i have it on good authority that Bill Gates wanted to devise a console with a physical aspect very much like South Park's Mr Garrison's 'IT', his alternative to air travel, but was told that whilst they couldn't copy the idea manifestly they could certainly do it metaphysically.

Having seen all that's alegedly planned by MS and Sony, I'm seriously considering going PC come this Xmas. Steam Box sounds quite interesting but nothing has been officially announced yet has it?

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

@Syrette all things rumoured for both consoles, bar the first party which MS has mysteriously held off for a year.

I'm not making a decision until we actually see them for real. I just don't believe they will be completely stupid. There is bound to be some great stuff. They have to react to markets like everyone else while holding onto what made them successful and I think they will in the ways that count.

One interesting question is will MS, providing their controller does weird shit like sound effects and an lcd display, make said controller compatible with the PC like they did with the 360?

Surely this will have more impact than any exclusive and will affect how the next gen in terms of multi platform will play out for PC owners?

The last rumours I heard on the Xbox pad was that it splits in two and uses a whole new wireless connection tech, so I imagine it'll be a case of releasing a new PC dongle.

Well, the existing wireless 360 pad doesn't work on PCs as I understand it - you need a wired pad, then you can just plug and play.

So I guess bitch_tit's question really is, will they release a wired controller, and if so will it talk standard USB protocols over the wire like the existing 360 wired pad does?

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Unless they've fixed the degrading rechargeable battery pack problem, then I really hope they do.

Yeah, me too. Not play the political bullshit like they did with Halo 2.

You can use wireless pads on the PC. You just need the weird-ass dongle that allows them to communicate.

Wonder if they'll build the battery in this time? Also, they're really keeping this one close to their chests. For all Sony's talk of "letting them go first", they've leaked more than a colander.

Do you use a Play & Charge cable, by any chance? That could be what's causing the problem.

The quick charge that plugs into a plug socket's far better, and the batteries work so much better.

I've been thinking. PS4 streaming PS3 via Gaikai makes no sense. It means a massive server farm of PS3s, because Cell's too crazy to replicate via emulation. So, more than likely it's for PSX/PS2.

I doubt sony would have a central server for streaming ps3 data, more likely it would be smaller server farms placed at key telephone exchanges if they chose to go that route.

You pretty much have to to make Gakai work. Greater distance, lower quality experience.

Why would you consider anything before we know for definite about the machines, software, etc. ?

I'm going Steambox, for TW Rome2 alone.
By the time that comes out, I'll have been separated from my Steam account for 10 months.
Better than any console launch window.

Until I read the front page article I had no idea Steambox was likely to do streaming from another PC in the house. That's definitely got me interested - as long as it can beat the 720p of Nvidia Shield.

Yeah, exactly. If both consoles have a screen on their controller, how will that functionality be transferred to the pc version?

Probably being totally lazy here but any confirmed release date for either the PS4 or the next Xbox?

    @NeverEatYellowSnow

Not yet. The best to hope for is a launch 'window' from Sony i guess from the press conference on the 20th.

    October's a likely release window.

Doubt either pad will have a screen on it - the Ps4 one is a button too, and "clicks" like a Macbook trackpad.

I'm going to guess Xbox 720 globally in November. PS4 September in Japan/North America and Feb in Europe.

Wondering whether Bungie's Destiny announcement today will cast any light on things?

Wishful thinking I know but the game is supposedly cross-generational.

You already can stream if you've got a second PC or android device that you can plug into the TV. I use Splashtop.

I've used that too. But it isn't quick enough for action games.
