    @Metalfish

    Excellent, a new chapter to read :-)

    I found the opening paragraph a little clumsy, but afte rthat it seemed to flow well. Some good back and forth between captor and prisoner.

    And yes, it was a little wicked.

    Right. I'm calling this Chapter done. For now.

    @Metalfish

    Excellent, some good description and turn of phrase as always. The lead up to the battle feels authentic and I liked The Chained, I'm hoping we find out more about them.

    @Techno,

    He's first introduced here. He holds the honour of being the second sweariest character.

    I might well introduce him a heck of a lot earlier, since he's fighting for his life in the approaches at the beginning of the book (while everyone else is wandering around in safe-old Ironhearth) and we only meet him in the aftermath. He'd be a pretty good opportunity to get some action in early on, anyway.

    @Metalfish

    I think I'm going to have to read the whole draft through again when you're done (if you want me to).

    Well, if you want to see how I go from "stick up my arse pretentious" to settling somewhere around my own voice, it's a pretty good draft to read. I'll email you one, since the blog is pretty out of date (intentionally, really).

    Probably best to email it once you're done and I can go through the whole thing. I'll still provide spot feedback as you post as well.

    Fair enough. It's not really that far off end of draft. Maybe 30k words. Depends how the end act-type-bit plays out.

    Well I've finished a proof read pass, but I found quite a few mistakes, so I'll do another pass before working on the layout.

    I always say you'll have to read something five times before you get all the mistakes out. And I don't really mean all the mistakes either.

    Indeed, I'll keep going through it until I'm satisfied. I've been tempted to get it done professionally, but it's not cheap.

    Send me your latest copy. I'm not as good as a real editor, but I'm not bad. I'm doing anything else today.

    Bugger me this thread has gone quiet.

    Chapter 22. I think this might be the longest chapter I've written for this one. It's certainly the most action packed. I do fear this means I've written it like a five year old.

    Still, basically nothing happens.

    Also: 100,000 words. I am unreasonably pleased with this arbitrary number.

    Pardon my quietness. Been a bit busy elsewhere, but hope to be less busy sometime. Especially by Nov, or I'll be buggered.

    Well done on the tonne btw!

    Does this count as 'catching up' for that last two NaNos that this pile of words has spanned?

    EDIT: MD, you polished up that draft? I'm accepting edit drafts, though I'll be in the middle of Techno's at the mo and I've got two more to read.

    Given my last horrific overrun I'm in no position to deny you the catch up =)

    Alas no, I ought to have done it, but I have not, because I suck. Thank you for the offer, though, you specialise in copy edit, yes? May need one if I ever stop sucking and do the non copy stuff.

    100,000 words is a good number. And I can vouch for Metalfish's editing prowess, he's helped in a big way with me finishing The Cult of Me.

    Well I've done it, the layout and cover has been uploaded so should be available very soon. It's my 40th birthday on Sunday so I'll do the 'official' launch then.

    I'll be getting in touch with everyone who has helped me individually, but I'd also like to do a group thank you for everyone's help.

    /Group hug :-)

    No hugging!

    But you are welcome and I wish you the best of sales, it was a good yarn even in first draft.

    Thanks. I was hoping to be able to give everyone who helped along the way a free copy, but there's no way to gift Kindle books in the UK store :-(
