As the title, I really really really wanted to play Little Big Adventure and Discworld again and I have given up on them ever appearing on the PSN store.

My queswtion is what else should I put on it? What awesome homebrew / MAME / amiga / whatever stuff would people recomend.

I have just followed the advise in the page http://wololo.net/wagic/cfw-for-dummies-psp-1000-and-hackable-psp-2000/ and installed the firmware, and now need to figure out how to actually play games on it...

the CPS (capcom) emulators are great, NeoGeo emulators fantastic.
you'll want to pick upa few Memory cards though, they soon will fill up.

so much good stuff out there for the CFW PSP.

Mega Drive, NES/SNES and Spectrum emulators all work great. Also go have a look at some other homebrew. Cave Story is absolutely lovely on the PSP, as is rRootage and Noiz2Sa (if you're into shooters).

Plus Vice for the C64. Wizball fits like a charm.

With the latest FWs the PS1 isos work properly without pops.

I really like the MasterBoy emulator. It playes Gamboy, GBC, Master System and GameGear games.

Since it's not so easy to play GG Shinobi 1&2 on my GameGear I've been playing it on my PSP. The screen is so much clearer and I don't need to re-morgage my flat to power the thing.

I'm pretty the sure all PSPs can now access CFW. It's ridiculously easy, just a case of copying some files over and then running the eboot from the Game menu.

Files can be downloaded from here: http://code.google.com/p/procfw/downloads/list

If adventuring is your thing, there's obviously ScummVM, but also a port of the Adventure Game Studio runtimes: here.

Only plays games made for 320x200/240, but Gemini Rue works well (albeit with fairly slow loading).

Transport tycoon deluxe is pretty good...also dosbox plays some old PC games really well.
Mame is a bit poor but as some pointed out, the cps1 + cps2 emulators work really well.
Picodrive is a good megadrive emulator as it also(with the bios') does Mega CD too so sonic CD becomes a possibility.

Was just about the buy one as well! Thanks for posting.

Also thanks to Kay for the link. I was on the verge of buying a Caanoo for some 16 bit goodness until this thread popped up! Hope my local Gamestation or Game has a PSP 1000 today.

Are those number related to firmware? Is it a case of dropping the right one into the Game folder and running it?

Yep, I think the latest official firmware available is 6.39, in which case you can just copy the files from folder into the PSP/GAME folder and run. This'll put the PSP in "light" CFW (meaning if you hard boot the PSP it'll take it back to OFW) and then you can run homebrew, ISOs, PS1 games etc.

If it's a 1000 with an older firmware though then you might be better off installing a proper CFW. Check what firmware you get and then google the options before updating.

Heh, so they just released OFW 6.60.

I got the OFW 6.39 from Sony's website just moments ago, updated, tried to connect to the store and got the "you have to update" message. Installing CFW 6.39 solved it quick, though.

And now the Sony page is showing 6.60.

Got one off eBay. 60 with Royal Mail Special Delivery. Already has custom firmware installed and 4GB memory card. Not bad eh?

edit: custom firmware 5.00 m33-6 apparently. Not too sure what that means but they seller says it runs emulators fine.

I have most of the major console emulators up to 16bit and of course PSP Isos. Also got most handhelds, although some of the emulation on the less successful handhelds is a bit ropey. Also have a Capcom arcade and Neo Geo emulators. Ports of Doom and Heretic as well. Thinks thats it.

You can also get signed versions of most emulators now meaning they will run on OFW.

I think I'll have a crack of this with my then old PSP as I am planning on getting a Vita and was going to sell the PSP at the time. This seems a much better use for it though. I assume I can do it with a PSP 3000 and just s/w?

I have them all! Of course many of them I'll never play, but couldn't be arsed going through them all looking for the ones I wanted.

With the 3000 I don't think it can be permanently flashed with CFW (might have changed). So you need to use the lite CFW mentioned above and reboot the PSP into CFW to activate it.

Anyway, it's no biggie. Just keep the Fast Recovery program on the Memory Stick and run it whenever your PSP turns off completely for whatever reason. My PSP-1000 is currently at the stage where it can turn off even if I put it down on a table too vigorously, so the fast recovery is a must, but is quick and painless and there's no risk of losing access to my homebrew.

Yeah, I'll probably just download a ton and have a play.
