    So here's the idea.

    Everyone makes a mixtape/mixcd.

I (or a third party) takes everyone address.

You then get assigned a random member of the swap to send your tape to, anonymously.

No one knows who they're going to get.

People get joyful stuff in the post and giggle and have lovely times.

People who are interested in this make yourself known.

I'm in, though I should mention I only listen to three bands: Fornicator, Dying Fetus and Lady GaGa.

I'm wondereing whether there a way to do this online, by sharing playlists somehow? That would save on postage and cd's anyway :)

    THAT'S RUINING THE WHOLE POINT.

It needs to be a physical object. In the real world.

I'm sure IRONOMAN would like to get involved, maybe even do a rap of your posts about copyright theft from the thread yesterday over a few of the instrumental tracks. I think this would be a hit:

Let's BURN this music to a CD, lest any beauty still be on it. Let's burn it and sear it and blacken it to a husk. Let's BURN the music. My my. BURN. A we'll wonder why it sounds different. Sounds less tender and precious and soulful. Why it sounds like the charcoaled remnants of a long lost feeling. Why the love and memories it stared up were fleeting.

Also, you missed out the punchline from the joke!

interesting idea - do we burn it to audio cd and how many tracks?

i'm thinking 10 tracks is optimal - don't want to listen for too long if it's terrible!

It can also die on it's arse...
"I promise I'll put it in the post tomorrow."

It's still a fun idea though. I still have the playlist that I created for this the last time around. My overriding memory being that of the 2 or 3 CDs I received there was about one track that I actually liked listening too...

I'm sure people can't wait for your shit attempt at snobbery when listening to their mix tape.

There was an online version like Hog-lump suggested on AATG in the past.
Some of the stuff submitted differed A LOT in taste to mine. So I reckon the chances of getting a CD I like would be slim.

Still happy to give it a go.

    Sign me up.

    I'm in.

We used to do this every summer on a (now sadly defunct) music forum I was on. Called it Summer Burn.

Always got some good stuff that you wouldn't normally listen to.

I bet they can't. I am, of course, too polite to actually tell anyone I didn't like what they sent. I'm sure some of the people didn't really like what I sent either. Possibly because it contained music by artists you'd actually heard of.

It's worth pointing out that making an artistically profound cover for the mixtape was also a pre-requisite for entry. ;)

This was done before using uploaded mixes. Some of my favourite summer mixtapes from that are still in rotation, (cheers smoothpete!)

It's only piracy if Richie rips them all to his I-pod!

I think I can come up with 10 tracks.
