    @vizzini

    Except Rayman legends which beat it in every one of those categories and raised the bar to the extent that NSMBU/SLU is now second rate.

    Possibly the worst post ever. The gameplay on Legends is shit compared to the perfect precision platforming and control offered by NSMBU. Style over substance, the actual gameplay and level design pales in comparison to Mario U.

    Fucking hell can't believe I am going to say this

    Rumble sushi is actually right, legends is not in the same league as nsmbu haven't played slu

    I do like Rayman and it is very pretty but it is a lot of style over substance

    I think expressing a preference for either series is fair enough as they're both made up of solid, enjoyable platformers. As far as Legends and NSMBU go, they both have lots to do and plenty to challenge you. Both worthwhile purchases, I'd have though :)

    I'd kick the living daylights out of the producers of Tipping Point - Ghandi

    I'm just sick of the relentless saccharine bullshit from Nintendo, I guess. Rayman may not be the better game (haven't played NSMBU) but at least it has a graphical style which is funny, as opposed to just fun.

    LB, you really are a massive geek.

    I'm sure NSMBU is the more refined game. It bloody well should be after a billion incrementation.

    NSMBU is far superior. I have enjoyed Rayman Legends, but it doesn't touch NSMBU, not even close.

    I do agree with you regarding the graphical style, Mario has had countless games using the same artificial colour whereas Rayman looks good with its artistic touch. I just prefer Mario's precision and timing

    Rayman Legends looks utterly bloody gorgeous, and has far more innovative ideas for level designs than Mario Bros U. Its 2-player gameplay is just so much better, too.

    I've not played Legends, but I found Origins to be more of a parkour platformer. There was only one way through each level, but it was satisfying to hit that 'perfect line' and keep the momentum going. Something they tried to push in those damn chest-chasing levels, but came off to be quite frustrating at times.

    Will definitely be getting my hands on Legends at some point, but i'd say it's got to be quite a leap over Origins if it's going to compare to NSMBU.

    For anyone interested, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is currently going for 25 on the eShop. I don't know how long it's on sale for, but as long as you're comfortable with purchasing from the eShop, and you have an external HDD, i'd strongly recommend it!

    I should probably post this in the eShop thread, but I can't be bothered to find it.

    I'm really tempted with that. I already have it on 3DS, but I wouldn't mind paying 25 for an upgrade to online play and playing on TV. Certainly a good buy if you don't have it on any format.

    @rumblesushi

    Eurogamer and every other serious critic would disagree. I absolutely love Mario and always have but the 2d series has been resting on it's laurels since the first NSMB on DS years ago. That was a game that brought nothing 'new' to the table then and subsequent versions just mixed up the formula a little - even borrowing the same graphics and music.

    RL by contrast is bursting with new ideas, a beautiful art style and genuine innovation.

    Think they need to lay off the Mario games a bit. They seems to really be pushing them out a bit too often now.

    I still feel that it's okay to prefer NSMBU or Rayman. I was quite surprised how many fresh ideas were in NSMB2, so it's not like they didn't try. They're still well crafted games, it's just a shame they didn't want to create a new visual style to go with them. More than 1 NSMB per console would push it a bit much I feel, but thankfully they've stuck to that so far.

    Still, Rayman is good. NSMBU is good. Certainly no excuse to not giving Rayman a go though, the demo is well worth playing. I love the Castle Rock level.
