You think their shareholders will allow them to continue to throw good money after bad?

Surely if you make you own hardware:

    - You make money from the hardware itself (if sold at a profit)
    - Donít have to pay to release games on your own console
    - But charge others for the privilege
    - Make tons by selling controllers, memory cards etc at well over the odds.
    - + nowadays there is potential revenue from Xbox live type subscriptions etc..
All of the above is moot if your console isn't a success.

Well yeah but what Im saying is that there are benefits to having your own hardware so it would be worth another bash at it even if the Wii U fails.

I will give them the stubborn thing. If they released super mario world on IOS, they could all give up and go and live on their own private island.

I just don't see how Nintendo can compete with Sony and MS, which is what they need to do to make real money from hardware. OK, they did it with the Wii by getting non-gamers onboard, but that's looking increasingly like a trick that can't be repeated.

After the Xbone reveal, I am now super interested in Nintendo at E3 ...

... when is their next Direct Thingummy?

A 3D Mario (or Mario Kart) with the (matte) Premium bundle at £199 this Christmas will be awfully troublesome to be swayed away from.

The next Direct will be "before E3" so anytime between now and June 11th. They might do it at the same time as their normal conference which is early on the Tuesday but I think it will more likely be on the Sunday beforehand (9th) like their E3 Direct was last year.

Personally, I think they'd be better off doing it about a week before so that they can get some time in the spotlight before MS and Sony unveil all their "megatons" that they may or may not have. With the current negativity surround Xbox One, I think the sooner Nintendo show what they've got the better for them.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but it looks like EA have back-pedalled a little.

    http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2013/05/22/ea-backpedals-games-in-development-for-the-nintendo-console.aspx

Will these be fully fledged in-house titles or (more likely) major franchises handed off to external studios?

Yes this has already been posted my reply was...

I think he is trying to keep the Wii U option open; in the event of the "Real next gen" going tits up. If Wii U sales gain momentum and there is a decent user base Electronic Arts will change the roster on Fifa 12.5 and call it Fifa 14.

That's not Nintendo though, that's just a Nintendo US employee, a subtle but rather important difference.

    @Bremenacht

What are you making of your new WiiU? Did you buy the basic or the premium? And did you buy SMBu to go with it?

I went for a Premium in the end, desiring the best Nintendo has to offer. I've bought no games for it though, because the console alone is enough, and because games will only get better if I wait for two years before playing them.

As you may have noticed from the other threads, I've also bought a PS4 and an XBOX Onesie. They're almost as good.

Good work buying the premium. I look forward to your review of NintendoLand once you realise the game is in the console's box ;)

I'll not play Nintendoland and review it until the installed user base is high enough to merit it.

One of the many reasons why I bought the white console instead, as well as the white pro controller too (although I had to get that from an Amazon seller, as they don't sell them in Europe  )

Anyone know if the black VITA has this problem?

The entirety of my Vita is perpetually covered with a thin layer of grease, if thats what you mean. I dont think it could look dirtier if it tried and I dont play on it that often.
