Yes, The Wii and KINECT proved that.

Anyone else have issues with returning to HDMI input when using the gamepad?

I can't get any signal on my TV after a short period of time (black screen).

Nope, some HDMI devices have handshaking issues like this.
Do you have a receiver in-between?

@Armoured_Bear noooo! The wii sold on the uniqueness of the experience and tonnes and tonnes of word of mouth.

Those ads make people aware and spark interest, but they would be better without the awful awful cheese.

@Armoured_Bear No, nothing. Seems to work when I exit whatever app I am using.

@AdamAsunder That's odd. Is it ZL? I've not played the Wii U version recently. Just the 3DS one, for some reason. Maybe you should post in the MH3 thread in the 3DS forum. There's a couple of friendly folk who seem to know the game inside out and can explain things a lot better than I.

Is there some sort of input setting on the telly? Turn any 'auto' stuff off. Set it manually, if it lets you.

Spent a couple of hours with wii u and although its a hit with the boys, the UI is painfully fucking slow! Nice console overall though.
Glad you like it, it is far too slow.
I hope the promised Spring and Summer updates make a huge improvement as the actual UI is pretty nice, it's just the speed that's annoying.

    @Raiko101

I think it's a case of the demo being a work in progress. The EG stream yesterday showed a different version of the game. One with the tiny map transposed onto the gamepad and the targetting worked.

I'm still very interested in getting the game. I would definitely rather play in in co-op though. Maybe I should get a handle on things first before teaming up.

In regards the WiiUs UI, I really like it but it definitely needs to be faster. For all its woes though I can get on the browser and Netflix far quicker than I could on xbox.

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-03-15-north-american-wii-u-sales-show-dismal-start-to-2013

The struggling console sold around 64,000 units in North America last month, while Microsoft's ageing Xbox 360 managed 302,000.

Wii U sold less in January than the weakest ever months for PlayStation 2, Xbox, PS3, Xbox 360 and the original Wii.
It's worth bearing in mind that GameCube and Wii sales only ebbed that low right before their successor consoles came out - not three months after their launch, as the Wii U has done.

Because when all of those consoles came out, the world wasn't in a seriously dire financial crisis and people actually had disposable income - they all came out in the boom years.

I expect the next XBox and Playstation will suffer a similar rough launch period.

The 2 seven year old consoles on the market seem to be selling just fine too. Keep grasping at those straws though.

The system needs games but these will come. Sales figures mean nothing really, we'll have to wait for financial reports to know the effect of these low sales figures.

Blaming the WiiU's failure on global economics doesn't make it any less of a failure. And to say that is the isolated reason for poor sales isn't true.

It's failed because of a lack of functionality, lack of content, lack of developer support, ridiculous price point and outdated hardware.

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Because people want to buy more powerful games consoles that offer experiences they're already familiar with, but with shinier graphics?

We've now seen 3 pretty poor console launches in the past few years. Those being the 3DS, Vita and now Wii U. With the casual still happy to fork out ridiculous prices for Apple products though, I don't think the financial market is having a big effect on those sales. Rather, as somebody else put it, the average joe is no longer interested in dedicated gaming hardware.

I imagine the PS4 and 360 2 will get off to stronger starts than the Wii U, but they wont set the world on fire and quite quickly we'll see projects scaled back, for compatibility with older/cheaper consoles or dropped entirely. It's going to be a shakey few years for the industry.

    That's my prediction, anyway.

I'm not saying it hasn't been an iffy launch (to be optimistic).

I'm saying that doesn't paint anywhere near the whole picture.

As someone pointed out the last time you trotted that one out, Apple cant make 400 quid iPads fast enough and Samsung are selling their gizmos like they are going out of fashion.

The global downturn doesnt affect things people want to buy.

I really wanted the wii U to be brilliant, and have amazing games and do really well. I'd still probably enjoy one (a bit) if I bought one now. But I just can't argue against LeoliansBro's points. It's been out a little while now and I'm still waiting for that front page 10/10 game, but it's just not there, is it.

It's a damn shame, but I just can't justify any reason for me to get one

Nintendos arrogance at releasing such a a piece of shit 7 year old tech console for a frankly ridiculous price, and expecting people to buy it on name alone has come back to bite them on the arse. The quicker they go software only the better, because they make awful, awful consoles.

iPad sales arent down. They are slightly up. Youre thinking of market share which has shrunk as, as I said, samsungs galaxy range is doing a bomb along with all the other 7" tabs on the market.
