If I tell anyone I have one, they almost without fail say "oh is that the new Wii controller?", if they've heard of it. Or think it's a new Nintendo handheld.

Yeah, Nintendo's marketing has been one of the worst things they've done with the Wii U. I didn't think I was saying anything that hadn't been observed a million times already.

If people still think it's a controller, then it doesn't really matter what I understand.

I personally think the issue is more with the branding than the marketing. Calling it the Wii2 would have immediately alleviated that issue.

The marketing is actually reasonably clear about it being a new console, but that requires you to actually see the ad and pay some attention to it.

The problem is that their biggest advertising push did make it look like a new wii controller. It showed shome bint playing NSMB, a game that looks identical to the one on the wii. If you werenít paying attention, why wouldnít you think that? Iirc (which I probably donít) the rest of the players even had wiimotes.

Personally, the name is not a problem at all.
It's that the console, and controller have the exact same design ethic as the original Wii.

Why they designed it to look like the Wii when it is nothing like it, is beyond me.

I do agree there is an issue around the clarity of what this is and who it's for, but I don't think resolving that issue or any amount of marketing will result in people buying it in droves.

No, no - I think it would take a lot more than that for it to start selling in droves.

Droves would take price drops, Mario X 30, maybe sexual favours, etc.

I donít think a price drop is needed; the Wii U UK price should be in comparison with the PS3 500GB as both consoles retail for 30,000 Japanese Yen. Forget about VAT etc. if online retailers can sell the PS3 500GB for £229.99 then why charge extortionate Prices for the Wii U?

    Because no one wants it.

The stupid price of the PS3 (as well as the shitty quality of the newest revision, and the fact The Last Guardian is never coming out) is the reason I never bought one either.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Sorry, think that was my fault.

Had a proper go on ZombiU last night. I haven't been so tense in a game since Silent Hill 2. Great stuff.

Might need a Mario game for when my nerves get too shredded.

Nintendoland and a couple of mates is good for a wind-down.

Is Nintendoland any good with just two of you by the way?

It's OK, but not £350 OK.

(It's not really £350 OK with four people either, but let it slide)

LB, you really are a massive geek.

Yup, there's a bunch of single player games and other for two or more players. We had a great time with Yoshi's Fruit Cart the other night and that's one at a time playing.

If there are girls in the house then i recommend you play the Luigi ghost game, great fun :)

I love reading through the comments to the recent Wii U articles. So many believing that those who own a Wii U are feeling burned already or have nothing to play now. How deluded.

I've had one since Sunday and put about four hours into it and I already feel a bit like that.

I'm talking more about the comments in which assumptions are being made about everyone. Including those who were interested in more than a couple of the launch titles.

I know it's not for everyone and there's not a lot on offer for some folk, but not everyone is in that same boat.

I dont feel burned but Im definitely bordering on 'nothing to play'

Ive stretched Nintendoland and NSMBU to the brink of exhaustion.

I've not had it on much more than the xbox, but didn't expect to, I've only got one game. But have enjoyed it, and if it gets supported (big if!), look forward to see stuff coming out for it.

It's simply not going to sell anywhere near what the Wii did, if Nintendo think that they are mental. It's at the wrong price, and most people (non-gamers) who bought a Wii have largely used it for dust gathering. Why would they want another one?

I was fully expecting a drought. It's the same with all console releases these days. I remember the DS, Wii, 3DS, PS3 and Vita all were pretty bad. My fault for buying so close to launch.

Strangely, it's bothered me less with the Wii U. Nothing to do with any virtuous properties it may posses. Mostly it's because my gametime's so limited these days, and I've a bit of a PS3 backlog.

I don't like having too many games on the go at once, particularly narrative heavy games. In my mind I've got to complete FarCry 3, Okami HD, and Ni No Kuni before the inevitable time-sink that is Monster Hunter arrives in March. On top of that, Sleeping Dogs is arriving on PS+ this month and Luigi's Mansion's just round the corner.

For me, that's a lot of games to cover in 2-3 months.

Crap, I've only just remembered Bioshock, Pikmin and GTA V are coming as well.

I've had mine for two weeks and still loving it. I'm primarily a PC gamer not a 360/PS3 gamer though so maybe that makes a difference?

... And Xenoblade as well :(

I've had mine since launch and I don't regret it all. For me, it's just a different type of gaming. I still very much enjoy Nintendo exclusives and it's the only console my wife will play with, and non-gaming friends.
