Registered 6 years agoEveryone will tell you, because it's true, that driving on by yrself for the first time is a strange experience. It's hard to explain, but it is very odd.Every girl I ever kissed I was thinking of a pro footballer.

Registered 7 years agoThe mechanics of driving are easy. The ability to take that and use public roads appropriately seems a quality that is dying out.
Since coming back from Xmas holidays I've lost count of the number of cars I've seen run red lights. -

Registered 11 years agoI remember the first time I reversed out or a tight car park spot by myself, and nearly look out the rear door of the car next to me (realised just in time). I don't remember any amusing incidents when learning though. Just do it, do it, do it again.Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

Registered 10 years agoTrickiest part is training the leg muscles to get the pressure right on pedals.
In NZ you can get your license at 15, which I did. I drove every day for ten years and then moved to the UK and have driven twice in 9 years.
I should probably do a refresher course, what is the cheapest you can get driving lessons for? Maybe 4 lessons to get used to driving here. -

Registered 6 years agoWell ten 1 hour lessons cost me £180, so about £18 per lesson is probably about what you should be looking for.Every girl I ever kissed I was thinking of a pro footballer.

Registered 9 years agoSome instructors will do the first lesson free. Shop around, see if you can find 4 of them. Then you're laughing -

Registered 8 years agoLast week I had to wait for five minutes while a learner did the slowest reverse parralelelelellll park I have ever witnessed. For some reason our estate is some sort of breeding ground for learner drivers... sometimes it's hard to maintain the "you were them once, chill out" demeanour, as the other voice gets progressively more dominant; "HURRY THE RRRrgl!! UP AND GET OUT OF MY WAY YOU INCOMPETANT MONG!!!!!! RAAAARGH"
I failed my theory 3 times :-s but passed the practical first go with one minor, i handed the pass sheet to my instructor afterwards and she said, "are you sure this is yours?!"

Registered 9 years agoI live on the road where the local test centre is. I walk past it every day. I feel for the people pulling out of the driveway, it's an instant fail if you do that bit wrong and I see people fuck it up all the time -

Registered 6 years agoI'm having lessons again. Failed twice at 17/18 (first was 1 major 4 minors, so annoyed).
I hadn't had a lesson for ages before last night, and it went really well. I can drive bloody cars, it's just all the other bastards on the road! -

Registered 4 years agoI did a two week crash course (hur hur) then my test two weeks later. It worked out cheaper, and I was driving within a month.
I recommend taking a look at intensive courses. It worked for me, zero accidents and I drive every week. -

Registered 8 years agoFirst time driving by myself, I discovered that the brakes on a MkII Escort don't function particularly efficiently whilst reversing at a rate that might be deemed slightly excessive.
Ended up only inches from someones garage door
