I take this back. It's a lot more Vanquish than Gears, half the time I've been playing it I forgot there's a cover mechanic at all, and ripping the robots to pieces with the assault rifle is immensely satisfying. As is killing a robotic gorilla by punching it in the arse.

This could be a seriously good game.

Yep, the little snippets of decision making chatter, the co-ordinated moves and the boss design all look great. The little video in the menu shows a lot of the more advanced voice stuff, like suppression, decoy, and combined fire. The RPG stuff, levelling weapons, skills (those colour dot boxes), and the relationships between characters should add some depth.

It somewhat hinges on the voice recognition (button prompts optional ?) working competently, but all being well, I think Team Yakuza have created a little blinder here.

PS: Anyone tried to copy the Japanese phrases shown in the vid/anyone tried speaking Japanese ?

So what's the verdict on the demo folks who have played it?

I've sort of gone from 'meh' to 'maybe' after seeing some footage of this.

Another Vanquish type game would be very welcome.

Its nothing like vanquish. No where near as fast. It plays a lot more like gears. Its hard to tell from the demo as you miss out on all the squad chatter and tactics. The gun play is good though. Could be a winner.

I disagree. More Vanquish, less Gears. particularly the boss fights.

Haven't played Gears in many a year, but I'd say the cover/firing is a touch zippier, definitely leaning more towards Vanquish. Certainly doesn't feel like a slog, bullet damage isn't too high in the open, and I was quite happy to roll and jump around everywhere.

Gave the first level a quick go tonight. Fleeting moments of both Gears/Vanquish, but imo, it's to its own.

Game speed feels right to me.
Not quite sure on overall polish, level was quite bland.

One or two tiny moments concerning framerate, will need to replay and see what caught my attention.

Voice-commands gave me a good laugh with my basic Japanese, learnt primarily from Takeshis Castle "IKUZOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!"

    Do want more.

I remember dreaming I played this game last night. Can't remember what it was like though. Everyone in it was wearing black.

If I was really, really looking forward to playing the game I'd understand but as it is, it's just bizarre!!

For the people that don't have a JPN account, the Xbox 360 Demo can be found here
Framerate is ace compared to the PS3 vers. by the way chaps.

I have the feeling that this - price-wise - will bomb 2-3 weeks after release, don't know whether to get it day 1 or wait, hmmm...

PS3 English demo up on US Store, perhaps EU today ? Don't know about 360, but hopefully it'll show what all the chatter and commands are about.

I quite enjoyed the demo, despite the language barrier. Combat felt like a nice cross between Vanquish and Mass Effect.

I'm rather looking forward to seeing how well the voice controls work, it's been something rather underused for quite a while.

Funny really, all the hype about Mass Effect 3 being better with Kinect, and this does the same thing with a headset.

Damn this game is good, way better than the Mass Effect 3 demo! The combat is so satisfying.

Yeah combat is good. Certainly better than ME2 (I've not tried 3 yet). Could be a winner.

I found the demo surprisingly good, I doubt I'll get it on release but at least it's on my radar now.

I'm not sure why the shooting being better than ME3's is a big deal, it's a bit like the driving being better in Forza than in GTA, kinda expected.

Hardly. Mass Effect 3 has obviously made strides to ape games like Gears with it's side roll, better aiming and cover mechanics none of which flow as well as they could or should (better than 2 though). The camera is also to close to the character model.

Seemed almost identical to ME2's to me, but the thing is in ME the shooting is perfectly adequate because that's all it needs to be. You don't play it for the shooting or at least you largely don't (unless you're a nutter) where as Binary Domain being just a shooter will live or die on it so has to be pretty decent.

Nothing needs to be adequate and i'm sure Bioware strive hard to make it above that. You don't play it purely for the shooting but the shooting plays a major part.

Mass effect is a shooter now for all intents and purposes. It falls down in that regard for me. The gun play just isn't satisfying. From the demo, binary domain has a lot better mechanics.

Yes I like very much, after the ME3 demo this is lot better. Ypu can get this for around the 30 too!:)

Unfortunately the voice commands don't work via Kinect, only the headset...

Heh, dawned on me when I was shouting at the TV (in as many accents as I could muster) and the ai characters took offence at my ignoring them! Shame, as I could see the advantage having played ME3 demo and Halo: Anniversary.

Really enjoyed the demo and I'm sure the voice commands will work a bit better in the final game as you can train it to recognise your voice.

/time to look for a good pre-order price

As is always the case I found issuing orders and the like a bit clunky but I do like that it recognizes when I say "shit" because I fucked up and they ask what's the problem.

As for prices, Simply games have it cheapest at 30 but if you want a slightly more reliable company then Shopto have it for just under 32.
