I doubt it hurts in brand-awareness though, regardless of what came first...

    Anyway...
Seriously, people seem very determined to see negativity and cynicism in this that isn't there.

It's a shit celebration and now he's turned it into a shit brand logo. That really is all there is to it.
Nah - that is just your naivety in not seeing the cynicism....

Klinsmann's was amusing.  Shearer's that of a bell end,  so it suited him.

Suarez's in front of Moyes was entertaining, but the fact that he constantly still dives takes away from it. Klinsmann had cut it mostly out when he arrived in England.

Best ones are from that Icelandic team.  Top notch.

Luis García's celebration was one of the first I can remember that pissed me off.

Thumb sucking? It annoyed me because that's Totti's celebration.

It's one thing to have a lame celebration. It's another to steal a lame celebration.

I loved Cantona's against Sunderland. Just stand there with an 'I am the messiah' pose that nobody else could pull off.

He was probably right when coupled it with the finish to that goal - which was superb.

    * Cantona

Didn't realise Totti did the thumb sucking first, makes it even worse if it wasn't even original.

That was ace. So arrogant, but brilliant. In some little way Ballotelli's v Germany was good. Yeah the goal was nice,  but the God pose was extra special because he most certainly doesn't warrant it. Arrogant when no reason to be. Top notch.

That Cantona celebration was the best ever, but I still think he was basically just amazed that it went in, and just tried to turn his look of utter shock into one of "I meant to do that".

Yeah, only a few players can pull of celebrations like that.

Best ones for me are the unplanned displays of excitement that mirror the feelings in the stands. Beckham's after that free kick against Greece or something like that.

The Beckham goal still gets me going now when you watch it back. 'Amazing scenes' etc.

He meant it, but I think he was still a bit surprised he pulled it off. Watch the celebration. His first reaction is slight shock, and then it evolves.

Bebeto rocking the cradle and Maradona doing the running up to the camera thing you see ad nauseum these days really stick in my mind.

Cantona - hands on hips, king of all he surveys, is the undisputed number one I'd say.

I'm sure a lot of us played sport and as happy as we were to score we didn't feel the need to do stupid heart symbols or cunitsh dancing on the touch line.
My comment was more specifically aimed at Youthist comment about stupid celebrations yet pointing out that jumping on to your manager is somehow up there with all the hearts and stuff.

Frankly, I love a good celebration, especially during the World Cup. The Nigerian celebrations during the WC 94' were very memorable to the country.

Just seems like another thing for us to have a good whine about.

I also think the attitude to extravagant celebrations is a bit of a culture thing. It's not a very British thing to do is it?

In Africa and South America, it's part of the culture and fun reflected in the game.

I actually do love jumping on the manager, and dodging your team mates etc. I am not sure if what you said above realised that - I do like it, I was being genuine. I do not like thumb sucking, or "trademark" celebrations. I like just folk running about losing their shit for a bit, or showing support for the boss.

i love it when people do this. I wonder if anyone will ever predict 500-0. That'll be 100 times more funny!

Marco Tardelli and Temuri Ketsbaia do it for me. I like to see some passion.
Tardelli's was great. The ultimate embodiment of the simple and pure ecstasy of a goal scored.

Ketsbaia's was also great. The ultimate embodiment of a complete and utter mental collapse.
