I know he's frustrating to watch but I think a lot of his positives are lost in the analysis cause he doesn't score enough, which I accept is a massive problem.

    Maybe I'm just deluded.
I'm basing my comments on last nights' game, I have maybe seen him play a couple of other times and it has nothing to do with not scoring goals. He is a weak link in possession and he didn't create anything of note. Again, compare his performance to Townsend who had that wonderful technique of rarely losing control of the ball while running at full pelt, something Welbeck isn't even close to. If Welbeck is to play on the left he needs to be providing more than just hustle.
To be fair, if it's hustle you want, surely Milner is your man. Not a massive fan of Milner's style but if thats what you want out on the left, I'd pick him over Welshit.

If it's attacking intent you are after surely walcott will be in when he is back from injury.

I agree, Milner is a much better option as he can actually control the ball without it pinging off him.

You are a factory of sadness.

Given Wellbeck rarely scores, can't cross the ball or control it then there's no obvious reason why he gets in the team. He's probably the worst England forward of the last decade if not 20 years. He's only getting in now because he's young and plays for United but I'd be surprised if they didn't get rid of him soon.

Yeah you'd think the fans of Midtable United who are used to seeing some of the best players in the world would be on his back a bit more.

Credit where it's due I guess.

All this mocking is definitely going to come back to bite me on Saturday.
  • Deleted user 16 October 2013 12:30:11
I suppose he is the sort of player that is perfect for a mid table team.

Welbeck will quite clearly move at the end of the season so that he can get European football somewhere.

You can still get in for fair play can't you?

I'm sure FIFA would fix it so they don't miss out.

Also to be fair to Welbeck in an England shirt he has 8 gaols in 20 appearances which isn't all that shit.

Again I don't watch England all that much as the games tend to coincide with Ireland games (you think you lot have it bad) but he seems to have done fairly well for the senior English team all things considered. Certainly seems to be doing enough to justify inclusion.

It's been pointed out several times now, but San Marino are the equivalent of a bad non-league side, and Moldova and Scotland aren't much better. That's over half his goals accounted for.

His goal against Belgium might be more meaningful if it wasn't a friendly, likewise his goals against Sweden (who are realistically the equivalent of a mid-table PL) side.

So that record means very little.

Can anyone spot the super secret troll-bait?

Not gonna "get" me with that one tbh ;)

I couldn't really give all that much of a toss about England and all of you in here have a better insight into them as you all tend to watch every one of their games so far be it from me to disagree with you.

What was that stat about Rooney last night, never scored at a World Cup or something, Lineker leads with 8 goals.

If only there was some top notch competition we could look at his stats for:

    Prem 12/13

    Games started: 13
    Subs: 14
    Goals: 1

We're talking about whether he's any good or not. His England stats are dubious evidence that he is. His PL stats are compelling evidence he isn't.

I must have a high threshold for shit.

I suppose I'll need it with the current united team :)

Yeah, that was the stat, he's going to pass Lineker's overall scoring record but he has yet to score at the World Cup. In fairness to Rooney, he did look excellent last night, playing with drive, conviction and creativity.

You are a factory of sadness.

I'm gonna have to come to kalel's defence here (like Welshit tracking back), as I specifically remember this too, as I also was drawn into.

I also saw it with Gibson and O'Shea too.

Most other boards I've been reading seem to think he played quite well, tracked back, held up the ball well up front and retained possession to ease the workload on the Eng back line at 1-0.

Didn't watch the game so can't comment but I do wonder at times if his failings are exaggerated on here to try wind up united fans or because its some sort of running gag at this stage.

Anyway, very tired argument. Most United fans think he will turn out to be a good player. Most other fans don't. Been done to death.
