I swear you could google some of these defences of Wellshit and come up with identical comments for Frazier Campbell from a few years back.

I said it about two seasons ago: he'll end up playing for a Steve Bruce team before long. Back then it was Sunderland, but Hull will do.

Sturridge scores goals, though. For club anyway. That does help.
    Welbeck scores more for England.

I guess it's that he's incredibly frustrating to watch lanky bastard never seems to be in control of the ball but he does somehow keep it.

    Come and get it cumslingers!

Made me laugh when he scored two goals against Swansea (and doubled his tally from last year) everyone (pundits and Utd fans) were saying how is gonna score tons of goals this season. Has he even scored since then?

Wellbeck scores about as many goals as any other defensive winger.

He'd make a banging left back.

Sturridge did naff all both games. Welbeck can do a shift out wide while offering some threat.

Can see Sturridge making way for someone else when Roy goes back to two up top. Walcott wide right and Townsend left.

Sturridge has improved all round game though but still has poor vision

@robc84 we haven't scored many since as a team and he had an injury.

He has 10 England goals I think. Better than most available so there is logic in selection. He seems to lose balance far too easily.

All United fans agree on that one

I don't give a fuck. I'm not the one who keeps bringing him up in the hope that everyone will validate my opinion of him.

Lets not peter crouch him. Half those goals have come from san marino and moldova as well as having far more caps.

Think Ravel needs to grow up. He was moaning about not getting chance to take pen for hat trick.

Zaha telling him that he isn't pen taker so hit hits him. Like most talents he seems to be severely flawed.

I'm glad someone noticed how terrible Welbeck was, there were two occasions where his tracking back stopped a decent overlap from emerging and I can kind of see the point of the selection but his close control and decision making was awful all game. He's pretty far away from international class.

You are a factory of sadness.

I'm not saying I think welbeck is amazing but that definitely didn't happen. Campbell never played as many games for United as welbeck has. I'm not sure anyone knew enough about Campbell other than to say he looked a handful which I think is still true to be fair to him.

I distinctly remembering having almost this exact conversation probably five years ago about Frazier Campbell and I was reminiscing about how Man U fans used to defend Luke Chadwick. And five years before that I was probably comparing Luke Chadwick to someone.

The thing is, there are many other choices but Roy seems to have decided that he wants someone who's main skill seems to be energy and hussle. I applaud that he gives that much effort but compare him and Townsend on either wing and it's a bit embarrassing for Wellbeck. Did Welbeck deliver anything of note into the box or have any decent efforts?

You are a factory of sadness.

I'm pretty sure the Pizza face thing only lasted about 3 games, about as long as Bebe.

Shockingly fans tend to stick up for their young players when they first get into a team.

Fuck we even did it for Gibson! :p

Not always, I read a lot of bile saying how certain players are "Championship players at best". In fact, that seems to be doled out to every player that doesn't score a hat trick in their first match.

I think it's fair to have a pop at Welbeck's performances for England, he may be doing wonders for Man U but for England he looks sub-standard.

You are a factory of sadness.

Well I am constantly sticking up for him with some other united fans as well.

I know he's frustrating to watch but I think a lot of his positives are lost in the analysis cause he doesn't score enough, which I accept is a massive problem.

    Maybe I'm just deluded.

I'm basing my comments on last nights' game, I have maybe seen him play a couple of other times and it has nothing to do with not scoring goals. He is a weak link in possession and he didn't create anything of note. Again, compare his performance to Townsend who had that wonderful technique of rarely losing control of the ball while running at full pelt, something Welbeck isn't even close to. If Welbeck is to play on the left he needs to be providing more than just hustle.

You are a factory of sadness.
