Still seems a little risky. We're not exactly safe in the league.
Ipswich are more likely to go down to League One than Norwich making their way to the Championship again so, I wouldn't worry ... you have got yourselves a good manager too.

That was awfully difficult for me to muster up the courage to say ... : (

Sooo...Norwich have agreed to sign Van Wolfswinkel?

I'll be stunned if that goes through - it makes a chance to us plundering the lower leagues for our talent. :-O

I can't imagine LFMartins being too happy about that news.
Yup, taken advantage of Sporting's financial state, fair play to them. No other club took the initiative to get him in on a pre-contract.
We've been watching Ricky for about 3 years. Afaik we haven't actually made an official move for him yet and there is probably a reason for that. We seem to be pretty interested in Aubameyang now rather than van Wolfswinkel.
Yup - Aubameyang is a better fit for our needs tbh. He can play out wide for a start, unlike RvW (I'm calling him that as I'm lazy). Very pacey, tricky player. Good foil for Cisse and can play centrally if Cisse isn't playing.

RvW would have us playing 442 again and/or lead to another Ba/Cisse situation where they're too similar and this hinders one or the other.

Losing your magic, David? Showing Chinese kids how to take the perfect free-kick, Goldenballs slips up and ends up on the floor

Because he was wearing polished shoes.

I'm amazed he could even take a decent freekick in those shoes.

They'll be thousands of Chinese kids now trying to perfect the freekick by slipping over immediately after taking it. Watch the Chinese national team have a freekick expert now doing it.

Since arsenal have a thing for plundering financially-stories clubs (whilst moaning about how unfair it is for teams like Newcastle Newcastle to plunder and get many players), I wonder if we too will raid Sporting Lisbon?

Who else is of worth? Wouldn't mind Diego Lopez on the cheap as Sagna's replacement. Diego Capel would be a decent squad option too.
Who else can we raid? Don't think we're allowed to plunder Malaga again, though would love to have Isco and Toulalan. Wouldn't be surprised to see other PL clubs raid them for the likes of Saviola or even Santa Cruz.

Apologies for The Sun link, but it looks like the EL finalists might be getting awarded CL places, or it is at least under consideration.

Its a weird one. The EL does absolutely need something to get people to take it seriously, but the likes of us having five teams in the CL would just devalue the competition even further.

Yeah. The basic problem is that there are already too many teams in the CL and countries would go apeshit if you took one off them.

I would be happy to see it go to the top two, to be honest.

I think that the EL winners should get a crack at the Qualifying Rounds, the one before the main Group Stages are drawn. That way, it's fair on everyone.

The problem then would be that its likely that, if they didnt qualify proper for the CL, they would have at least finished in the EL places again.

So if they didnt make it through, they would have to do a pre-season qualifier for the CL and then get dumped into doing all four million games of the EL.

Another vote for top 2 max only from me, even as a fan of a club that has benefited massively. Not that it'll happen. At the very least, change the bloody name.

If it's the Champions League it makes sense for the EL Champion to be allowed into it too.

I think it should be the champions only. This is why I have so much respect fot teams that won the tophy when it was the european cup, they truly had to beat other champions to win it

Not really. Its a separate competition. You could then argue that the FA cup deserves a place.

It makes sense in the fact that its very clearly a second rate competition and needs a prize that people actually want.

Spot the Liverpool fan...! Even if most of the teams were gash and that Grobelaar touched the ball more than the strikers. :)

Were Liverpool teams of old really that negative?
  • Deleted user 25 March 2013 12:58:45
It's because of the old Liverpool sides that they invented the backpass rule.
