    The new one, that is.

The mini-series is showing on Sky One tonight and tomorrow, having previously been on Sky Movies. The series starts on Monday.

The trailer looked alright, but there's nearly four hours of mini-series to watch if I want to give the proper series a go. Is it worth a shot?

How does it fit into the sci-fi pigeon holes? File next to Babylon 5 or shove it under the carpet with Voyager?

File it just below B5 but with potential to be just as good. It's not all sexy Cylon temptresses (although Six is rather nice).

    This space left intentionally blank.

I got the pilot on DVD and stopped 1/2 way through.

It was getting late; I've got to go back to it at some point methinks.

It was OK as it goes. I just keep forgetting it's in the rack.

Dunno - not really that easy to pigeonhole. Its just an enjoyable drama with a scifi theme but not at all techie. The wife really enjoyed it.

We will be watching it and normally the house is pretty much scifi free.

I tell thee, I'm gonna have to get Sky+ and ensure I get all of these.

If you do get the 99 one and not the new one coming out soon. The DIY 250GB 'upgrade' seems to be working again on most models.

Bugger. I was hoping you were all going to say it was rubbish so I didn't have to bother. :-)

So going from Telewest is, how much? Anyone done the same?

Ignore tengu, anyone who liked Galactica 80 has no idea about quality television! ;-)

Well I really liked the new one, much better than the original in fact. Really liked the handy-cam effects, gave it much more realism imo.

The sound is very good as well. Very minimalist style to it.

Thought the miniseries was great but I'm not getting my hopes too high for the actual series. Probably get cancelled, anyway:-)

I rather enjoyed it - the plot may be space opera (no trekkie 'explanations' for how stuff works), but I did like the way that it meshes that with a more 'realist' directorial style (hand-held cameras are used a lot).
Like Harry, I thought the Cylons were a more interesting bunch than before - despite their actions, they don't appear to be completely evil (a throwaway line at the end hints at the reason for the attack).

And just to spite Harry (seeing as I've been agreeing with him), I got it for a fiver (so ner... :oP )

Blerk, it is absolute shit of the highest order, I swear, DO NOT WATCH IT!

In fact, I INSIST you do not watch it.

I really loved the original series, and I even enjoyed the much hated second series Galactica 80, to a degree at least, but this new one is horrific. They've taken out everything that was good about the original show and thrown together a cheap piece of trash with the worst cast imaginable (the female Starbuck especially).

I'm quite the opposite. I thought the mini series was far far better than the old piece of junk imo

Just watched the first part of this and it was really good. Interesting stuff going on. A bit more 'human' than the 70s series.

And damn 6 is a fine woman. I'd like to see makes a 12 (I assume this joke has already been made).

Nice. Bit long winded. You sometimes get that seasick feeling you used to get with NYPD blue but on the whole better than most drivel.

And they didnt say "conduit" once.

Just watched it (thanks to this thread) and really enjoyed it. Much better than I would have thought. I'll have to catch the concluding part tomorrow now!!

Agreed, I was expecting to be disappointed, but I enjoyed it, they've done a good job!

Was gutted when I realised it was a 2 parter

Or on the other hand watch it on Sky so that it has enough of an audience to keep going.

    P2P = bad.

On another note. Those shots of Moment of Silence look bloody awful. I suppose though that showing some point n' click action isn't going to set the world alight.

After all that I didn't actually watch it! :-)

The missus conked out at about 8:50, so I put the tape on and played Project Zero 2 for a couple of hours instead. Will try to get around to watching it at the weekend instead. :-D

lol. You so won't bother. Nobody tapes things AND watches them these days, you know that!

If you can't be assed to watch it when its on, you're NOT gonna be bothered to watch it another day!

The only way you are going to do it. Is if you time it right so you watch the first part and it ends just when the second part starts

There is the option of the '3 and a half hour both-parts-in-one-go-with-less-adverts megathon repeat' on Sky One on Saturday night. But the missus didn't make it 'til 9 o' clock last night, and the repeat doesn't start 'til 10pm. :-)

I do get around to watching stuff of vid, though. I have a small child - there's precious little else you can do once he's gone to bed. :-)

Gotta admit that I was very impressed with this - it just had a really good feel to it; very bleak in fact! Love some of the FX work too - judging by some of those lovely crash zooms that I saw it looks very similar to the FX work done on Firefly. Liked the way that the space battles were kind of muted too - enough of a concession to the realism of there being no sound in space without actually making it completely silent.

Now as long as they don't cock it up in the last part I'll be tuning in next week to get the series (aw who am I kidding - I'll probably tune in anyway as there's precious little decent sci-fi on these days).

I really didn't like the 'fake handheld' camera stuff - it just didn't seem properly thought through. Whenever you're going to simulate a handheld camera, for Pete's sake make sure there's a good reason why suddenly you're viewing the action through someone's handycam rather than just viewing the action, like in the rest of the shots. I find it very jarring otherwise.

Having said that, I really liked the opening sequence with the fixed camera attached to the diplomatic vessel as it docked. Nice!

My thoughts exactly mate. IMO this new Battlestar wasn't great by any means, it's certainly no Bab 5 or Firefly, but it wasn't as bad in most places as I thought it was going to be.

I will watch it as it's sc-fi though, it's better than nothing.
