I'm just your usual arachnaphobic. Couldn't care less about other creepie crawlies and bugs and stuff. For some reason though, I will knock you out and run away if you come at me with a spider.

Seems stupid to label all the quirks various people have. Much better just a catch-all term be used for all of them, like 'big stupid pussy disease'.

Thats the point surely. A phobia is an irrational fear. I know that spiders cannot hurt me (at least in this country), doesn't stop my body and mind going into complete shut down at the sight of a house spider. Its embarrassing and I hate it, but I just can't control it.

Spiders native to this country can't hurt you. But some of the non-native ones can.

I'm afraid of rotweilers to an extent. I'm afraid of tarantulas, I don't like moths and precipices (not actual heights) make me feel all wierd (?virtigo). I have a phobia of house spiders though.

As in I will run along a precipice, through a swam of moths, over tarantulas and use a rotweiler as s shield if I see a single house spider. If I see two I will probably just puke, sweat, cry and call it the apocalypse.

    'Sup, what's guanine?

Arachnophobia is probably a leftover instinct from hundreds of thousands of years where we lived, where spiders could kill us instantly.

I've actually grown out of my fear, after being away from my mother who screamed the house down over every tiny spider. I actually held one of those monster house spiders recently while taking it outside.

I think I heard that actual phobias are completely learned behaviour. Fear is a different thing from a phobia.

I'm much better than I used to be, with only the larger house spiders or similar sized ones getting to me, and I can quite happily get close to them if they're in a web (???). I have mates that can't even bare the sight of tiny money spiders without becoming quivering wrecks so I consider myself quite lucky.

See, thats not a phobia. Its a perfectly rational fear. They're big, strong dogs that when in the wrong mode are perfectly capable of killing.

Also, stuffed/skeletonised animals. Went to the Museum of Natural History in NYC a couple of months ago and they have a load of stuffed elephants just as you walk in and to the left. I was actually not able to look at them because they freaked me out so badly. Didn't help that i was surrounded by other things like zebras and lions in glass cases as well so i pretty much had to look at the floor till my sister could lead me to the bit with all the bits and bobs from different civilizations through history (this, thankfully, contained no stuffed anything) :(

Do mummies freak you out too? Technically they're also stuffed animals. (Srsly)

I'm scared of all dogs. I think I've got better recently; knowing to just ignore them. But if there's not many people around and I see one I do panic. I still cross the street if I see one coming too.
