If you haven't already check out Restrepo, that will give you an idea of how things are. -

In the American forces they are part of the Navy, in the UK forces they are very much definitely in the Army, they are their own regiment like the Para's, or REME.
Are royal marines special forces, or the infantry of the navy? -

No they're not. The Royal Marines are part of the Royal Navy. They may work alongside the Army's forces in Afghanistan, but they are a seperate unit and operate under the banner of the RN, not BA.StarMagic wrote:

Now, I'm no expert, but listening to the audio in that, it sounds very much like they don't know what the fuck they're doing.

Registered 3 years agoI think the general operational guidelines for the US Army are 'just blow shit up, it's all we know how to do'.
Interesting video though, thanks for linking El.A wise man told me don't argue with fools

I'm probably using the wrong words here, but that video was definitely exciting. And when you hear the bullets zip past the soldier's head, that's some scary shit! Don't how he kept running as the shots kept coming, I'd have just hit the floor and cowered.

Registered 8 years agoHey guys,
That time has once again rolled around when I will be getting back on the plane and go and getting a sun tan.
Although I have been much quieter on the forum in the last 18 months I have still been visiting EG on a daily basis and still feel as though the EG family as a group of like minded individuals with similar values!
Just want to say thanks and that I'll see you on the flip side!
If I could take a moment to point out the hard work a lot of boys and girls are doing out there for a thankless task which is often criticized and rarely understood.
Some of the athletes competing in the paralympics this week are victims of the search for a peaceful future for central Asia and the people of Afghanistan.
Please take a moment next time you hear of stories in the press which are often one-sided and incomplete versions of events to consider that not everything may be as it is being presented to you.
The people that die out there are everyday people like you and I and their families are people living in your towns and cities and they should be commended for their sacrifice regardless of your own beliefs on the operation in Afghanistan.
I can assure you that every man with his boots in the dust will first and foremost be fighting to protect the men by his side, not for the government or for some broken western ideal.
These men and women are heroes and it would be nice to think that everyone who reads this will consider the human side of the conflict - on both sides.
Please consider help for heroes as a Charity worth supporting and on the 11th of November this year remember those men of your own generation who have given their lives for others as well of those of our fathers and grandfathers.
I feel I should also point out the focus of our efforts over there is on protecting life and every death on both sides is a tragedy.
Let's hope its all been worth it.
Peace out
KTM

Registered 9 years agoYou're going back? It's going to be stressful every time this topic gets a bump over the next year (or 18 months, however long they send you for).
Do try not to catch a bullet with the butt end of your rifle this time.
Although if any bullets are going to come neat you, 1337 rifle butt catching skills are preferred as a last resort of course.
Be safe! -
Just remember that if you see any coverage about people back home complaining, none of them confuse the soldiers with the policy.
Here's hoping for a safe endex. -
