You know I never knew LB actually played games. I always thought he just drank copious amounts of booze, whinged about bankers and wore silly jackets.

    Oh and trolled Wii threads.

    ;)

Hang on, isn't the divine ember at the petrified blacksmith after the butterfly? I thought the ember at the mushrooms was the enchanted one?

Gosh, Dark Souls really brings out the poet in people, doesn't it?

This is true. HA, have you fought the glittering papillon? You said you were pretty much done with Darkroot area...
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 16:35:59
The what? That'd be a no.

Anyway, he doesn't want to go to the catacombs yet anyway, so it's no biggie

Sounds like I'm going to have to go farming for souls to open up the Darkroot soul door.

@HairyArse - if you've done the butterfly, you should already have the divine ember. It's just after the butterfly, up a tower. You then have to visit the blacksmith in the undead parish area, and he'll offer to take it off your hands. You say yes to that, and then you can turn any +5 upgraded standard weapon to a divine weapon. Then you can upgrade that divine weapon with green titanite

Anyway, I'd still leave the catacombs alone for a bit, and it's only that area and the one after it where you'd need a divine weapon anyway

I gave him the divine ember and he said I had to come back later.

There is a way into Blighttown that skips all the nastier parts, even without the master key. Personally for a first playthrough I'd recommend heading down the long way. It's an education. :)

Yeah if you've never been there, nothing to lose trying the Depths route. Just if you're prone to frustration, the layout might annoy you.

I was struggling to think what the third route into Blighttown K_E was on about, but I guess it's still via Valley of Drakes, right? Getting past the enemies on that route could be a little tough...

Yeah. Literally just skips the door in favour of a black knight and a pair of drakes. Easy. :)

Urm... Ok, I have a light source.

    I don't have a light source

Oh, but I noticed that Dusk sold a cast light spell or something, is that what I need?

@BillCityfingers - no, that's cool. Either will do the job. But the spell obviously means you could equip your shield while its active. Whereas the other item....hang on....exactly what light source have you got?

There is a reason Tomb of the Giants is usually the last area people take on in the 2nd half of the game (Most go Duke's Archives, Lost Izalith, New Londo Ruins and then Tomb of the Giants from what I've seen).
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 18:33:32
@quadfather none. That was a feeble attempt at humour...
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 18:43:31
So I found a whole new path at Darkroot Basin which took me to Valley of Drakes where I got destroyed.
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 18:55:43
Oh fuck me. I never realised there were some stairs down to Londo Ruins at The Firelink Shrine bonfire.
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 19:01:33
I ran left past the big apparently-dead-looking dragon at the top. If I'd had enough arrows I could have picked him off from a distance. Ran all the way to the top of Londo Ruins then came out at Firelink Shrine and as I came up the stairs thought WTF?

@HairyArse Haha, never would've thought of discovering Firelink shrine like that!

New Londo Ruins is very worth exploring btw, as long as you don't cross any bridges.
  • Deleted user 26 June 2013 19:11:06
I'd already been there - just never realised you could down the stairs. Thought my only options were to the right past the well or left into the catacombs. I suppose someone's going to tell me there's another way, too?

And thus the twisty turny nature of Dark Souls environment provides more joy.

I'd argue badly-designed locales with little or no clues as to available paths, but hey-ho.

    :D
