Thanks, will give it a bash. Disappointingly the Archos manual or website gives almost zero information on this...
I used the quality bar thingy (?), setting it to 66%, or whatever was suitable for creating a DVD-sized rip i.e. less than 4.6GB. It's been a while though, so even if it is a good idea, there may be bollocks involved.

Yeah, sounds like compression artefact from having too low a bitrate.

Flying_Pig wrote:To be honest, Handbrake is quite great for ripping DVDs. However, its weak point is that it cannot rip DVD with copy protection. If your DVDs are drm-protected, Handbrake would failed to do that. I think, u could google search for some dvd ripping program. Or, follow this guide to rip dvd movies into an mp4 or avi. i am using it.
OK - total DVD ripping novice, so apologies in advance...
I'm looking for some free, decent and easy to use software to rip some DVDs into MP4/AVI/MKV format for me to copy to, and watch on, my tablet. Lots of names mentioned above, so I'd appreciate some suggestions as to my best option.
Additionally, slightly off topic, but where would be the best place for me to legally acquire digital versions of films/TV series'?

Resurrection of old thread, but;
How much has changed? My Son has many DVD's which are in a holder in the back of the wife's car. If they get stolen, it will be tears...
So, my Google skills have failed me, is there a DVD ripper for the Mac which anyone could recommend which handles the latest disks in a semi-friendly way? I don't mind paying £30 ish.

I can't speak for your mac experience but what I use on windows works on mac.
Make MKV then Handbrake awseome combo. Both free (although MakeMKV is in beta and going paid whenever it's out - been using it free for over a year myself). Will do blu to for though interested.
