Use universal or high-bitrate.

Thanks, will give it a bash. Disappointingly the Archos manual or website gives almost zero information on this...

I used the quality bar thingy (?), setting it to 66%, or whatever was suitable for creating a DVD-sized rip i.e. less than 4.6GB. It's been a while though, so even if it is a good idea, there may be bollocks involved.

Yeah, sounds like compression artefact from having too low a bitrate.

OK - total DVD ripping novice, so apologies in advance...

I'm looking for some free, decent and easy to use software to rip some DVDs into MP4/AVI/MKV format for me to copy to, and watch on, my tablet. Lots of names mentioned above, so I'd appreciate some suggestions as to my best option.

Additionally, slightly off topic, but where would be the best place for me to legally acquire digital versions of films/TV series'?
To be honest, Handbrake is quite great for ripping DVDs. However, its weak point is that it cannot rip DVD with copy protection. If your DVDs are drm-protected, Handbrake would failed to do that. I think, u could google search for some dvd ripping program. Or, follow this guide to rip dvd movies into an mp4 or avi. i am using it.

Piratebay

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.
