It really is a shame. Such a brilliant character.

    He was cult.

Quite funny as well, in a weird sort of papier-mache-pastiche-of-the-Northern-comedy-club-circuit way.

Did anyone have a copy of The Biz? Was a speccy game, I think I had it on a Crash cover tape.

    RIP

However, whilst not wanting to sound callous, at least I can sleep at night now.

Frank Sidebottom always freaked me out a bit. He was like a 70s Dr. Who monster.

But what does this have to do with Frank? Except the era.

    The Biz

    From Wikiwikiwikipedia:
Frank was first revealed to the world on a 12 inch promotional record which came free with the Chris Sievey-created video game The Biz for the ZX Spectrum computer. The Frank Sidebottom character was initially created to be a fan of Sievey's band The Freshies but the popularity of the character led Sievey to focus his output on Frank Sidebottom comedy records, many of which were put out on the 'In Tape' record label of Manchester[2] and previous to that, the 'Regal Zonophone' label.

So that game/single was the genesis of Frank?

Yeah me too. My first TV appearance was on No. 73 in Bowness, when those bouncing things came out. I believe they were called pogo balls. A mate and I thought we were incredibly funny, when smaller kids were demoing them, while we jumped crazily high at the back pretending to fall over.

I think we were also dressed in Miami Vice fancy dress.

    Beautiful tender beings.

This is very sad. I first saw Frank on No. 73 too, but we also used to race home from the pub to catch "Frank's Fantastic Shed Show" a few years later, and I still smirk thinking about his appearances on the Mark Radcliffe radio show while I was at uni, specifically his brilliant "Story of Pop" series.

    RIP Chris, and Frank. :-(
