I did read that, but it didn't really address my question.

If you have it at the Retina resolution it doubles the pixel size of non-retina apps, making them look pap.

I'm wondering if you pop the resolution down to that of a normal MBP for example, would non-retina apps look more acceptable.
If you double the pixel size of non-retina apps, won't they just look exactly the same as they do now (and exactly the same as lowering the resolution)? The only difference might be that they'll look 'chunky' in comparison to retina apps, but like-for-like they should be identical.

Posting from my new MacBook that is awesomeness!

Just waiting on a mini DVI to DVI cable so that I can plug it into my Apple Cinema display.

    Don't tell Dirtbox!

Which model did you get PhoenixFlames?

I am still deciding between the Retina or an Air. The Retina seems to really be a Air++, makes deciding harder.

And the normal Macbook Pro's look like fine systems, chunky compared to the Air and Retina but with more ports, etc., .

Gaah! Spent 45 mins in the Apple store earlier. Edging towards a 13" Air now after seeing the decent res for working full screen but also crazy light weight (1.35kg!!!!).

I went for the top spec 13" model with a 128GB SSD. I'm hooking it up to a 20" cinema display for home working so screen size isn't an issue. I chose it based on ports, speed and optical drive. They are really lovely machines.

Oh bugger! Got my ports mixed up. Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered a mini display port to DVI. Luckily these things are only a couple of quid on Amazon.

My new Retina MBP looks really nice...

Unfortunately, they removed my Desktop background picture ("Rocks" probably wasn't high-res enough), and some Apps that do their own text rendering (2/3rds of Reeder) look comparatively terrible.

Seems really fast and silent, but I haven't pushed it yet.

Who wants to sit in the lobby of some poxy 2 star hotel, trying and failing to connect their MacBook to the wifi that isn't there and hassling the staff about it because surfing the net is all its really for anyway. No movers and shakers are going to see you in the Holiday Inn and give you a knowing look because you are part of the same select club as they are

Give me a suite at the Ritz any day.

Getting my Retina in about a week. @[maven]; have you noticed the screen retention issue that has been reported by a small number of users?

I debated the Air vs the Retina but because I'm a developer the Retina made more sense moving forward the next few years. Higher DPI websites and apps will become far more commonplace.

Anyone getting a 'vibrating' battery on thir mbp? My folks have gone to India and bought a 2012 non retina mbp. They say that, perhaps because the two pin plug with it isn't earthed, the battery vibrates when the laptop is plugged into the wall. Seems to be a common issue.

Anyone else experience this? If you bought an mbp did it clear up when you got back to To the uk?

I experience that on my 2011MBP. Didn't notice it so much in the UK, but I'm in China now with two-pin plugs and it's actually quite unpleasant at times.

It's not "vibrating" so much as discharging through the chassis it seems. You can touch someone who is using an MBP plugged into mains and feel it trying to Earth itself through you.

Probably the most inadequate explanation of the phenomenon ever (not much of an electrician, me) but it's a fucked up feeling and quite unpleasant.

You get that when you plug the transformer straight into the plug unit, using the mains extension stops it.

Yeah I get the vibrating thing on the iPad when it's plugged in. Totally normal apparently. Weird sensation when you touch it, almost like an extremely mild electric shock.

Give yourself Ł5 or ˝ gig, you're worth it.
