Going to have a bit of cash to buy a few bits and pieces next month and the wife is thinking about doing some serious photography. With that in mind rather than faffing about we are thinking of a Macbook Pro with 15" high res screen and Aperture.

    # 2.4GHz Intel Core i5
    # 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB
    # 320GB Serial ATA Drive @ 5400 rpm
    # SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
    # MacBook Pro 15-inch Hi-Res Glossy Widescreen Display
    # Backlit Keyboard (British) & User's Guide (English)
    # Aperture preinstalled

€2088 all in. Anything else we should consider?

Nothing other than a carry case.

My £440 HP works fantastically with Photoshop CS5.

    That is all.

You need a backup solution (particularly for photography). There are lots of nice 1tb external drives floating around these days. The lack of USB3 is nearly unforgivable on the latest Macbook Pro though...

Wasn't I supposed to be sending you a drive?

I've never used Aperture but it's pretty heavily praised. Apparently the update added some really nice video features so it seems to be a pretty complete asset management solution. I'd still think about getting a copy of Photoshop or elements depending on how serious she plans on getting.

True but the firewire makes up for it. Am getting a external drive anyway so that won't be a problem.

I know, and before we get started down this route. I already have a HP Elitebook 6930p and a fuck off gaming rig. :D

That's an absolutely horrendous price. You'd be buying it for the Apple name alone. Similar specced Windows laptop would cost you half as much.

Oh joy. The 'you can get a pc cheaper' brigade.

Why is it that no matter what you post asking advice about, some turd always turns up telling you that you are wasting your money?

Hes asking for advice on buying a mac. Not asking whether he should buy one.

It's the same with everything, why does everyone keep buying those crappy 360s when there 2 more reliable and better consoles out?

    We'll never know.

Its the same with everything. It does my fucking head in. I asked for advice about buying a Tag watch and then, as sure as day followed night, a gaggle of arseholes fell over themselves to tell me how a 12 quid casio watch tells the time just as well.

You should put your money into an inheritance fund for your kids, not fritter it away on apple shit. They're controlling your mind so buy a PC instead.
