I've only seen a really crappy YouTube shaky-cam version of the trailer but it didn't look that bad. I couldn't really hear the sound, though.

What's the general verdict, then? It doesn't look like it's first-person like previously rumoured.

Edit: Incidentally, they seem to be referring to it as Silent Hill 8. 8! Jesus.

You guys, SH 5 was more than playable...it was err re-playable ;)
I have enjoyed all SH game (not played the wii one mind you) on some level.
1,2 and 3 excellent. 4 not bad, 5 better than 4 for me. Origins on ps2 being the weakest.
I cry out for survival horror games so will be watching with interest.

Just how fookin class am I. I posted this back in April ;) and you all mocked me x

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem! Oh, yeah!"

It's our fault really. We keep on buying these games so Konami keeps on signing off new ones. Though I can't imagine that Homecoming sold a great deal, it says something for the shoestring budgets they must be working with these days that they can actually continue.

It's difficult to tell much from trailers. You get an idea of the general standard of assets they are using and that's it since it's mostly parts of the game you can't play strung together. The choice of main character indicates they're not exactly taking an imaginative approach though.

Did they really show the trailer in the wrong aspect ratio at the conference? Every YouTube video of it I've found has everyone squashed up like dwarves.

Unless everyone in the game really is a dwarf.

    God that genuinely looks awful.

Say what you want about Homecoming but it got some of the atmosphere right. This...

    ... well, it's just...

    ...

... kind of like England's performance yesterday in game form.

    Drugs?

    /downs some White Claudia

After a rewatch I think it looks fairly decent, the attention to detail in the environments is very good, way higher than Homecoming. I'm hoping for a return to lonely wandering that Silent Hill 2 had.

I wonder what crime your guy commited?

It would be mental if he was a paedophile with your enemies being demonic children relentlessing chasing you, trying to devour your soul.

An interview with some the team.

Sounds like the inspiration at least is good, expect to see mummified women who were buried alived in their coffins.

Though can a mod change this thread to Silent Hill 8, since that seems to be the official numbering until they release a sub title.

This statement scares me more than all the Silent Hill games put together.

I wonder if there will ever be an actual Silent Hill 5, Konami always eventually opts to place the recent ones aside under a subtitle rather than giving them that all important number that slots them in after four as part of the series.

It seems this game is being built in Unreal Engine 3 if the internet is correct. :-(

Great, so now the Silent Hill series gets tearing for the first time on the PS3 version at the very least.

Some scans of the Games Informer article on Silent Hill: Downpour.

Certainly looks the part from the screenshots and i'm intrigued by the open world and sidequests, though whether that will break the atmosphere of the story we will have to see.

Also can we have a thread name change please Mods?

Yeah, time to finally change that thread title, for sure!

I've not read any of the previews yet, I'll make some time for that over lunch and then come back and cry about it later. :-)

The graphics are pretty sharp to be honest shame about the monster designs veering away from silent hills norm as the one in the screen shot looks like a zombie rather than a warped person but the environments look fantastic.

Specifically chosen shots that don't let you see the shortfalls up close.

The character and environment modelling sadly looks to be about the same standard as Homecoming, bloody awful standard to be specific.

No they don't at all. You could tell Homecoming looked like shit even from the screenies. For one this doesn't look like a HD PS2 game and thus trumps Homecoming in that respect.

No bad thing. Alan Wake's environments were gorgeous and creepy as hell at times.

Once you got out the constant forests of the first third of the game anyway.

Oh I agree. Sorry, should have been clearer! Just it's the first thing that came to mind from that selection of screenies.

Sorry, you're wrong. The character models seem to be reaching almost cartoon proportions. There's a thick, dwarfish feel to the main character even so you can imagine how far downhill it goes from there.

Once some better screens emerge this is going to look bloody abysmal.

Oh, the characters yeah, I was talking about the environments. They look great. I even said the characters don't look much cop.

Thick, dwarfish characters go hand in hand with the Unreal 3 Engine. I'm not sure it can do skinny dudes. :-D

Pretty much that. UE3 does lots of things, character models that aren't pumped up on steroids is not one of them.

Is "thick, dwarfish characters" a euphemism for "stupid, fat hobbit"? :-D
