There is a long running plot but really, outside of the cut scenes it matters very little to the core cases. It's been so long since I played the first ones I can barely remember it, but the character development of Phoenix and Edgeworth in particular was good to see over time.

I am absolutely loving Project x Zone. Such a fantastic fighting system.

2014 is shaping up to be another great year on 3DS. We get Layton vs Phoenix, Smash Bros, Kirby, SMTIV and Rune Factory 4 just for starters. Dare I also hope for Etrian Odyssey untold?

Considering we've still got PW, Zelda, Pokemon, Bravely Default, Batman, Sonic, Adventure Time and Layton to go this year (plus Shovel Knight on the eshop), it's going to end up having had a ridiculous run of decent software. I'm still catching up on games from earlier this year having been buried in Fire Emblem and Etrian Odyssey.

To many games not enough time. Between this and the vita getting rid of home consoles is the way to go for me.

Just watched the trailer for the forthcoming Kirby game. OMG it's like a big happy punch in the face. Classic joyful Nintendo.

I loved Kirby back on the Gameboy.

This year has been crazy for 3DS games that I want to play. I'd hardly touched it for ages and now my 3DS catalogue might be in double figures by the end of the year.

The Vita and 3DS really have taken up most of my gaming time in 2013.

Anyone here have a US/JP 3DS? Thinking about importing a US one since SMT IV isn't coming to Europe any time soon, and was wondering whether I'd just need to buy a UK charger for it, or whether I'd need a voltage converter?

UK charger will work fine, and are thankfully in ready supply thanks to the 3DSXL fuckup.

Cubby didn't know how to turn off sigs!

@Aretak I just use the charger that came with my original UK 3DS. Works fine.

Not sure if you're aware but SMTIV 'Limited Edition' (not very limited!) is currently on sale at VGP at $10 off.

Indeed, keeping up with 3ds games is practically a full time job these days. Going handheld only for gaming is now a real option.

    @santashi Thanks, that's good.

And yeah, I got that email too. VGP is where I'm planning on importing the 3DS from. I actually already have SMT IV though. Bought it back at launch since I didn't want to miss out and was considering importing a 3DS back then. The glut of things being announced as coming to the UK made me hesitate though, but as SMT IV hasn't materialised, importing one is back on.

@Aretak Have you considered a 2DS as an alternative? It's something I've considered, though I'm not sure there are enough US exclusive 3DS games to tempt me to go to the trouble of getting one.

@DuvaDan88 yeah I was going for that for all those reasons tbh, just wanted to see if anyone had reasons why it may have been pointless.
I swear they were cheaper a while ago now, sure I remember a deal for monster hunter and the console for 149, now cheapest I can find is like 170 with Mario. Vita is cheaper with a lot more so not overly sure what to do

Can offer no reason for going for the XL as I don't have one. Having said that so many good games on the 3ds get it you won't regret it.

XL saved my hands from the evil corners of the 3DS.

As my flatmate would say, true story.

@YenRug Not really to be honest. The 2DS is extremely unappealling to me, despite the price. It's hideous and way too big. My biggest issue with getting a 3DS has actually been not liking any of the hardware options. I had an original one for a while and the ergonomics and battery life made me get rid of it, yet the XL is larger than I really want a handheld to be.

It'll probably be a couple of years before a definitive 3DS Lite model arrives now though, given they announced the 2DS so recently, so I might as well suck it up and grab an XL.

@YenRug haven't you got an original 3ds to shift?

I need to get rid of my original 3DS as well. Just feel a little bad about the ambassador games disappearing into nothingness when Game wipe it. :/

Not sure what to think about the item renting in the new Zelda. I liked the Awakening et al system of discovering a new item and wandering off to see what now opened up to you. Still, looks lovely. Top down Zelda is my favourite kind.

@Mola_Ram Downloaded it, not played it yet, though surprised to see it listed at 19.99 on the eShop!

Just upgraded to an XL after a bit of change counting good fortune. I was perfectly happy with my normal 3ds, never got cramps or anything, but this thing..... Thoroughly impressed. It feels more solid, and sits nicely in my hands, the bigger screen doesn't seem to detract from the graphics atall, and it might just be me but the sound seems much clearer. It's a monstrosity of a *portable*, especially when open, but I always travel with a bag anyway so.... Meh. The 3d is focused on a much less console-almost-in-mouth position, and seems more prominent on games too, especially luigis mansion 2. I haven't had enough time to test the battery life, but I wholeheartedly reccommend this to anyone humming and hawing over an upgrade (or people considering buying their 1st 3ds) because it is such a big step up, in my opinion. Peace Nintenbros.

These buggers are holding on to their prices. About two months ago Amazon had one for 139 with Super Mario. Now...pretty much 160-170 everywhere with no fricking games.

I want one, but I don't want one that much. Especially considering as the software (at least first party) can be so bloody expensive as well.

It's the highest selling console out there at the minute, so I don't think they'll be coming down in price any time soon, unfortunately. Still can't believe a 3DS game is yet to top the software charts.

    Just a couple of questions:
    1. is there some kind of hack to make the console region free yet?
    2. Are games locked to an account or the specific console?

I'm thinking of grabbing one for Christmas for the mrs (the lady want Pokemon and I want persona) but I want to be able to import and transfer purchases should I buy a console for myself.

    For the emperor!

How are you finding the screen quality and viewing angles compared to a normal 3DS?
