The problem Man of Steel has is Zack Snyder.

Other than the slightly disastrous Sucker Punch, I don't mind him. He did what he could with 300, it's not exactly the deepest or most complex of graphic novels. And I thought Watchmen was about as good as it possibly could be when crammed into a 3hr running time, especially baring in mind it was supposed to be 'unfilmable'.
Yeah he loves his speed ramping, and clearly can't write for shit, but I think he's got a good eye for detail and can shoot action sequences with the best of 'em. I'm more worried about Nolan's involvement than Snyder's, this can't be all gritty and real world like his Batman, it wouldn't fit at all.
I've got a feeling if this does mega bucks, Snyder will be directing Justice League too.

Well, it certainly looks much better than Returns will is utter shit. Although I did watch it once and really enjoyed it. The other times I've watched it, I've fucking hated it.

Still no sign of Clark but that's probably a good thing so far.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

You know what I mean. The glasses and the bumbling personality. If they go that way of course.

Hope they don't go down the bumbling route again. I'm not a huge fan but always thought it over compensated.

What do Superman fans think of that part?

I'm quite happy for the bumbling to be toned right down. If it stays it'll just end up looking like a Reeve impression again. They've said they want to start afresh, if that's the case hopefully Cavill's got his own take on Clark.
I've not really seen anything in the new 52 run of comics, but supposedly this Superman will be a lot like the that one.

The new Empire magazine out with a Man Of Steel cover and leading feature. There's nothing you don't already know but there's one quite intriguing thing in there. It's when it comes to Clark Kent. They're being very tight-lipped about it. "We wanted to make him cooler!".

    Hmm...

I'd prefer then not to fuck too much with Clark. He doesn't need to be as geeky as Donner's Clark but he should absolutely be "mild mannered" at the very least. His "disguise" is his character, as opposed to something physical.

When they mean cooler, they presumably mean distance away from the Cary Grant-esque bumblings of Chris Reeve's portrayal. Which was awesome in its own right, but doesn't need to be repeated.

Fifty quid says they'll make him a little bit emo. Or Aspy. That would rock.

There are nomad tribes roaming the Gobi who can put together that Clark Kent is Superman nowadays, I think they've junked it after 70-odd years of wringing it for all its worth.

Early screening have been happening in the US. Take with a pinch of salt.

    - Imagine a Nolan story with Snyder effects/action.
    - It's the best movie of the year.
    - There's TONS of action with Superman kicking all kinds of ass in his suit.
    - The cape is CG'd most of the time so it can look awesome.
    - They have intentionally left out most of the the Super action in trailers to save it.
    - It's not nearly as dour and serious as the trailers suggest.
    - The movie is complete, minus the 3D post-conversion, which is currently taking place

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

CGI cape doesn't sound awesome at all.

They can't even have a real cape, ffs?

What's wrong with a CGI cape? As long as it looks real I don't see why it matters. It's probably far easier for them to do stunts without a cape getting in the way.
  • Deleted user 28 February 2013 22:53:37
The problem with a CGI cape is that there's a danger it'll constantly be billowing and undulating even if he's just taking a leisurely stroll down the road. We shall see, though.

Considering how most trailers just show the best bits, this is great news.

Excited for this. Haven't been as excited for a movie since....Terminator: Salvation (the less said, the better).
