It's easily the best looking game art direction-wise in the last few years. A HD rework in 1080p would look incredible.

Fix the pain in the arse quest giving system, and that horrible boss towards the end which pushes your party into the death liquid just by it's sheer size, and I might just get a Wii U just for this and Bayonetta. Criticisms aside though it was a stunning game on the whole, the best JRPG by some distance since Lost Odyssey.
The soundtrack as well needs way more recognition. Some of the score has still stayed with me even a year after I last played it. -

The battle system was the main bugbear for me, I just couldn't get to grips with it. It's way too chaotic for an RPG, imo. The NPC fetch-quests were also dull, and I wasn't at all interested in the cliched JRPG storyline and characters. I probably would have persevered if it wasn't for Zelda coming out at that time, but I decided to shelve it when I realised I wouldn't be completing it any time soon.Kay wrote:

I can see why it rated highly though, as the setting and soundtack was fantastic - it had better vistas than any HD game I've played. That alone makes me tempted to give it another try, especially if they ever release an HD remake. -

Registered 5 years agoGenuine question. Just picked this up to play on the wii u and am wondering is this like twighlight princess, a port of a GameCube game? The character models, animation and such are appalling.
And I forgot how hateful the wii control scheme was, do I need a classic controller to play this? -

Hence I have stopped playing as the wii has hateful controllers, will restart when I can get a classic controller. -

Registered 5 years ago10 hours in and this game is utterly fantastic.
But why oh why did they fuck up so badly by making this on the Wii? All I can think of every second of playtime is that this game is a 9.5/10, but would be one of the best games of the gen if it was on a console that could do graphics that did justice to the art style and had a decent controller.
The graphics I can overlook, but fuck me the wii is shit for anything other than party games. (The wii mote anyway, still trying to track down a classic controller.) Trying to press any buttons other than the trigger and the A button is an excersise in frustration, and controlling the camera is a fucking nightmare.
It is good to see a JRPG with a cast of character that I don't hate though. -

Hi mate
You need to play this game with the classic controller pro, that is what I use, and it is brilliant. Tried with the wiimote and as you say, it is pants."Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem! Oh, yeah!"

Registered 5 years agoHoly shit. Got my Classic Controller Pro dodgy chinese rip off and this game has really gone up a notch.
It makes a huge difference being able to actually move the camera and look around. Suddenly I realised when you look up you can see the titans towering above you and such.
Awesome, awesome game. -

Registered 2 years agoFound the big-boxed limited edition with included red controller a week or so ago in my local 'dodgy outlet'. Was in excellent condition and only £22, thought I'd take the plunge. Completely blown away by it; one of the most memorable games I've been fortunate enough to play.
Also pleased to see that the version I have sells for £100+ ordinarily. -

It might be worth considering that Monolith Soft's previous efforts at a Mechs-and-Gnosticism RPG were screwed over by over-ambition and poor executive management, and that it took Nintendo to see the potential, and to make sure ambition didn't overwhelm them. I'd say a hit to the graphics department is worth the price of having an actual, complete Xeno game!

Oh yeah, the music is fantastic. it's very rare I keep the sound turned on during an RPG, but I do so here. (Usually after 10 hours I get bored of the music and mute it and put on the radio. -

What's more impressive about the world is the complete lack of loading times despite the enormous scale, it's tecnically impressive despite the low poly character models IMO.
One of the best soundtracks I've ever heard too. -

On the WiiU, can this be played on the controller screen exclusively? I'm thinking it might be a good game to play when the TV is in use...
