I'm in the Cover beta group.

It's not for me. It's a great "app" but if you like to have a PIN or Pattern then the main attraction is broken. And since I don't use my phone for work it all becomes rather pointless.

So in summary, it's not you cover, it's me

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

I wonder if things like this (Aviate, Google Now, etc) should stop trying to be so intelligent and actually expose some options to the users. Aviate has one option - light or dark theme. Let me fire up the map and say where home / work / something of interest is. Stop showing me travel information for trains when I always get buses.

I do like Aviate's routine idea though, when it's getting late it has the set alarm and do not disturb buttons ready on my home screen / when I'm getting up it shows me the weather and my calendar.
    Google Now? Intelligent?

I've been using it for 4 days since i upgraded my Samdung S3 to 4.2. All it tells me is the weather, and how i can get too and from work. And that we are playing Dortmund today. TBH i think i could have written that "intelligence" in VBA. Oh it also drains my battery.

Not kidding.   I tested this over a 2 week period,  1 week on and the other disabled.   Phone survives loads longer when it's off. Talking actual hours longer.

Google now is best when you're abroad. But then it's hampered by the roaming charges...

Asphalt 8 currently free on the Play Store.
Arcade racing, sort of like Ridge Racer. It's by Gameloft, mind.

Seems to be a permanent switch to free to play.

    Portable view - Never forget.

I didn't realise you could turn google now off.
It's not massively useful as I have a short 15 minute commute.
If there's traffic problems, it's 20 or 25 minutes. I never check traffic.

What I do find useful, is when I need to go someplace I've never been yet.
I just look it up on google maps on my work or home pc and when I get in my car, I bring up google map and it's listed there as a card. I can type the address from there in my car gps, without having to jot it down on a piece of paper and I can let google give me driving directions to see whether or not me car GPS is being retarted.
If they differ I follow google's instructions. If they're the same I shut it off and follow the car's gps.

So yeah ... I'll manage without if it really makes a difference on the battery like that.

Kingdom Rush Frontiers is discounted. Haven't played it but loved the original

Google Now is pretty useless to me, I've turned it off. The best feature was reminders based-on location - walk in to Sainsbury's, reminder pops up saying "buy some stamps" - though it just ate through battery when I had any sort-of fine-grained location tracking active. It learned some places I went to a lot, but it insisted on showing me travel times when I'd already got there (and then showing me train times when I never get trains).

I use Google keep for location based reminders now.

You can tell it whether you want directions for car, train or bike by default.

Well I didn't say walking but you can set that too. Just click the 'i' by the map and select transportation mode. Although you don't really need it for walking I suppose.

Yeah, bus is really what I need but it doesn't know about local buses (unfortunately but understandably).

@monkehhh where do you live. In my tiny Swedish town Google now managed to upstage me and pic a bus I had no idea I could take and tell me to get off at a stop I didn't know existed

Disney's first Star Wars game is out, and it's a mobile game: Star Wars: Tiny Death Star - a bit buggy, but decent fun. From the Tiny Tower devs via Lucasarts.

Pretty big UK city, guess they haven't hooked in to their data yet. Somehow I've broken Google Now anyway, turned it off and the setting to turn it back on has vanished :)

my Google now tells me about bus times. I'm in London.

I haven't noticed it eating my battery though is certainly possible it is doing so. Not sure it's all that useful but I very much like the idea of it, very SF.

You can use the built in android device manager, to track it, wipe it, make it ring etc

I wish they would have demos for these games. That's one thing Xbox Live arcade got right, a trial version for every game. Guess they didn't want to put any roadblocks up for developers in light of competition.

Is there a decent multi player footie manager app? One where I can invite a number of mates and setup a game with regular matches?

CyanogenMod have released an installer app:

    CyanogenMod Installer

Requires a Windows PC to complete at the moment and not all smartphones supported. Still, going to give it a go on my Nexus 7. Will report back later on how it went!

PvZ 2 is superb until you have to pay to play. What a ball crap business model. Charge what you want for the game up front, nice and simple.
