I just got an android phone on a contract, just wondering what sort of stuff is on the play store you guys would recommend (and how do you buy the things anyway cause I noticed there doesn't seem to be any cards you can buy unlike for the app store on the iPhone.) Samsung Galaxy S3 mini if that matters :p

My local Tesco sells Google Play cards and it's not a large store.

    @Steve_Perry
First thing to install is kids place basically sandboxes your phone/tablet. Then pick the apps they can see.

    As for kids apps

    Where's my water/perry/mickey
    Fruit ninja skittles
    Jetpack joyride
    Ski safari
    Angry birds
I'll add more when I get hold of my nexus 7

    Edit, more games for kids

    Sprinkle
Building game .. son loves cranes and its actually quite
    Pudding monsters
    Manuganu
    Cut the rope
Wreck it Ralph... Some of the twin stick stuff can be a bit difficult though
    Shoot the birds

You can buy gift cards but the best way is to put a Google wallet account with your gmail address.

@crashVoodoo nice one. That app sounds perfect. I'm always worried he will brick my tablet or buy a 10 pound game on accident so I will check that out.

It'd be hard to actually brick your tablet, especially by accident, so I'd say you're safe in that respect, and for purchases, the default setting is to ask for your Google account password for every purchase(at least, for card payment it is. Don't imagine it being different for gift card credit), so unless your kid knows the password or you give it to him then you're ok there too.

@Folant it's more of a guard to prevent internet access for apps meaning ads don't load and they can't browse away to some porn site or mess about on Facebook/twitter.  As much as I like android there ate loads of apps that are rife with less than savoury adverts that I don't want my 3yr old seeing.

Also since you can't get out of it without a PIN your system settings and other personal items are safe from being played with.

Couple of apps worth looking at [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.appdisco.android.appdisco&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvLmFwcGRpc2NvLmFuZHJvaWQuYXBwZGlzY28iXQ..]Fetch[/link] - good a finding similar all ready downloaded apps, better than others I've tried!

And [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cc.lupine.quicksocial&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNjLmx1cGluZS5xdWlja3NvY2lhbCJd]Quick Social[/link] - From the app, allows you to post to Twitter, FaceBook and G+ at the same time (you have to buy the full version, all of 79p, to do so) if thats your thing?!

Sorry cant get the 'link' thing to work...

In fact Jift is better than Quick Social as you can 'share' stuff via Jift :)

Also have been playing with Nova Launcher on my SG3, stock Jelly Bean ftw!

I somehow managed to get Star Wars pinball off Amazon for free at one point and I've since bought some more tables for it.
Of the three I have, Episode V, Attack of the clones and Boba Fett, the first is decent, clones is fantastic and Boba Fett is quite pants.
I've now bought the Zen Pinball app which comes with an OK-ish table and has a whole bunch of others available to buy. Sadly they don't let you preview the table before you purchase more tables in game. Just a list of "features" which is quite pointless.

Does anyone have any hands on experience with any of the other tables? The Marvel are tempting me but I sort of want to try and pick the clone wars equivalent table and avoid the Boba Fett equivalent table.

I played through Anomaly: Warzone Korea for an hour or two yesterday, and found it to be really rather good. I'd played through the first one on 360, and the graphics seemed to be on a par (on a Note 2), and using the stylus was far more effective than the controller. I think I got it from a Humble Bundle, and it's well worth installing. You path your team of vehicles through an enemy's tower defense, and can buy new vehicles or upgrade existing ones on the fly, while using power-ups (repair, smoke screen etc) to make your tanks far more effective. Don't forget the speed-up icon in the bottom-right!

Dungelot is pretty fun, as well (I'm playing Lite and it seems fine to stay that way) - a lot simpler and a bit of fun, although perhaps a tad too random and simplistic. You choose a character class (RPG-style, like a paladin), and click on tiles to reveal what's underneath, looking for a key to open the next floor. You'll usually find monsters, and sometimes find loot. I recommend giving it a try, but I'd really like to see a game take a basic concept like this and run with it - especially the combat and character skills, which are so basic here.

Someone here recommended Wazhack..? Tried for a bit, and it looks like shit and plays like shit... but it's strangely compelling and fun. :D Not sure what's going on there. Side-on platforming view where you ladder down levels fighting stronger and stronger rats and kobolds (I didn't get too far) and picking up loot. The graphics reminded me of this, for some reason. :champ:

Also tried Serious Sam: Kamikaze. Nah. Don't.

I've been playing a few other titles on and off - Into the Dead is a lovely little tiltey-runner (first-person), simplistic but looks great and gets quite tense. It's free and often gets three minutes of my time.

I had the free version of Plague Inc on my olde Galaxy Ace, which for some reason glitched and gave me the ability to speed up time twice as much (which was supposed to be a paid feature). I'd had so much fun with it that I bought it immediately when I got my Note 2, and I've played through all the diseases again. Watching Sony eradicate mankind has never been so much fun!

I've thrown a fair few hours into Dungeon Hunter 4, but as with Dungelot, I want something like that... but better! The paid version wouldn't seem to give me what I want. What do I want? Diablo II, I guess! :p Is there anything closer to Diablo II's structure (DH4 has that, mostly) and inventory / green/blue/purple loot drops?

Dungeon Hunter 2 was closer to Diablo than any of the games after it. It might not be brilliant, but it's better than DH3 and 4 because of it.

Likewise but I haven't actually tried it yet!

I started playing Stealth Bastard last night on my Nexus 7 though. I like that :-)

Oh - I always dl'd Magic 2014 as I've always fancied trying it. Really good; I'll be buying the full version come pay day.

That's right. Alternativley, he might try Dungeon Quest.
    It's really basic though.
EDIT: How could I forget Heroes Call. Spent a lot of time with it, looks very pretty. You can save your data on Facebook too.

    What about Heart Breaker?

Personally, by the time I'd exhausted the demo and they were asking for payment I felt I'd had enough. But you never know!

CRUSH is a great little puzzle game from Radiantgames who did some good stuff on the 360 too. It's reaction based and eats up my spare time at the moment.

For those, like me, that were jealous of the chaos that ensues in a nice game of Spaceteam, it is now out for Android. Free with optional purchases but the game itself is playable without them as far as I can see. Can play with iOS users too it you use Wifi rather than Bluetooth, which is nice.

If someone out there has yet to play Clash of Heroes it's absolutely brilliant. Been a long time since I got absorbed by a phone game but this one has done it.

It's been patched to have proper resume after exiting the app, and the loadtimes are much better thanthe PS3 version and unlike the PC one I actually play on my phone rather than just buying games.
    Win.

Yeah, I finished it again on Android. It's still great, and the balance changes they've made work well (although some combinations are still pretty broken). I wish they'd make a sequel.

@DFawkes Many thanks for the link, been waiting for Spaceteam for a while, I even emailed Henry a few months back at the IoS launch to find out when it was coming to Android.

I had a feeling others might've been waiting for it :) Not actually played it given I only found out at night and it was a bit late to be shouting "Synchronize Z-Loop!" at people.

Obligatory Penny Arcade link. That's what sold it to me.

That Zombie Apocalypse card game I talked about had got some good updates to make it snappier. Shelter is the name. Makes for some good entertainment.

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.
