People had the same misconceptions about SA for the 2010 World Cup. Yes these places have crime problems and are dangerous, but if you stay out of the dodgy areas and be sensible enough, you'll be fine.

Seriously though, remember the fear of a terrorist bombing during our Olympics? (touch wood) I'm sure no tourist wanted to get blown to pieces either.
Brazil is my dream country. I'm already saving for both the WC and will certainly be at the Olympics too. -
