    I hope someone can fix the loot-function when using a gamepad, so that I don't have to pick up every little thing I click on.

    I purchased this game for 15,99 during the Steam Summer Sale and it was worth every penny.

    The characters are deep, clever, fit the setting perfectly and look just gorgeous. In general the graphics are even for 2012 topnotch. On a similar level is the voice-acting and music, it simply sucks you into this marvelous fantasy world. The gameplay is simple but smooth, very comprehensive and it feels just satisfactory how Geralt slays his way through hordes of monsters. The very good soundtrack plays a part in that, too. The character development was fine but there was nothing remarkable about it. The itemization however and especially the placing of new stronger items wasn't quite satisfactory. Too many items could only be found towards the end of the game while for the most part of Act I & II there were only few available choices. Then there is the really strong suite of the game: the storytelling. I like making decisions that actually influence the game environment. The Witcher 2 delivers the ultimate experience with its two completely different but equally good second Act's. This is being followed up by the tough choices Geralt is being forced to make in the third Act. Though the end was a little abrupt I loved every bit of it. The boss designs had its ups and downs. The scene I enjoyed most was certainly the epic boss battle against that river octopus at the end of Act I. I felt a slight disappointment when the other boss battles couldn't deliver the same quality but I guess you can't have it all.

    I'm really excited to see more of Geralt of Rivia in the future.

    OK, started this yesterday and looking forward to putting more time in...
    So far I love the universe (haven't played the first) but I'm struggling with the controls...
    It's probably just a matter of getting used to them but I get quite confused as to which button does what in the heat of battle...I'd also like Geralt to roll a bit faster...
    Also having real difficulty with the sensitivity, way too high for my liking...

    Anyway, early days, and I'm sure these are just temporary niggles, I'm enjoying myself so far and shall continue...For Temeria! (Or not, I'm still at the beginning and maybe I'll hate them later on)...

    You definately need to get used to the button layout, in my experience. My instincts kept telling me LT was block, but it's actually the lock on. lol Do yourself a favour and get the ability to roll further away when you get the chance. Very handy skill to put some distance between you from the enemy or to get out of a hairy situation.

    @Tuffty:
    Will do...
    The thing that bugs me is swapping runes (hold LB) then selecting one (right stick) and pressing A...That's both hands completely tied up and no way of pressing A without releasing one of the other buttons or letting the controller drop...So far I'm manipulating the right stick with my left thumb, but that's just awkward...
    Maybe I'm missing something...

    @AcidSnake Been a while sine I last played, but I'm sure you can use the left stick to select a rune in that menu?

    @AcidSnake

    The controls did take some getting used to - especially as I was coming off of several months of Dark Souls when I started. But it's definitely worth the investment; one of the best RPGs I've played.

    Also, I recommend upgrading the Quen sign to max; it was the most useful mechanic in the whole game for me, especially when certain missions throw multiple tough enemies at you at once.

    You appear to be forgetting that I'm an idiot :)
    Haha, I'll try that tonight thanks...

    @senso-ji:
    Is Quen the fireball dealy or the shield spell?
    So far they're pretty useless to me but obviously once powered up I'll start using them more...

    Quen is the shield spell - it's pretty useless at base level, but is great at maximum level. The fireball is also useful but I prefer to craft and use bombs instead.

    Quen's great but keep in mind endurance does not regenerate while it's active!
    In other words: it's almost useless for a sign-heavy witcher. Which is a far more powerful specialisation than you may think.

    The only skills I'd recommend for any build is the further rolls one mentioned above and the one that reduces backstab damage. Without them getting crowded - which happens all the time - puts you at risk of instadeath virtually every time.

    Heh, the game suggested I use 'easy' mode but I went with normal anyway...Hope it's not too difficult...

    Definitely reduce backstab damage asafp. It helped immensely in bigger fights.

    Seeing this thread pop up prompted me to continue my latest playthrough and boy have they improved the game since the previous version. I'm not sure how much is part of the EE and how much came in patches just before or after that but the differences are striking in places.

    Even very simple things like camera angles not being ideal in certain scenes have been improved upon. The one where Sile de Tanserville is introduced is far superior to the previous version for example, much more cinematic somehow.

    I'm also playing on hard now and getting my arse handed to me :p

    So, finished my first playthrough (because I had a 4 day weekend but also because the game really gripped me)...

    My opinion, great game!
    Really enjoyed my time with it and can't wait to get back in and follow the other path (sided with Roche in my playthrough)...

    Too bad about the glitches, but all bearable...Also the sound mixing is odd, with many music/sfx/other npcs loudly covering the main conversations...

    I also thought it would be more open world and I could come back to finish off old quests but that wasn't possible unfortunately...

    Went sign heavy and relied a lot on Quen...Hardly ever drank potions or blocked...

    Good story with multiple layers of conspiracy without descending into MGS style confusing story...

    Also liked a particular quest right at the beginning called Malena...Elven woman accused of terrorism basically, and all because she's another race! Until you find out she actually did it...Most other games would've made it about racism and she'd be innocent..

    And I found the trolls fun to interact with...

    I'm just doing various quests in Flotsam atm, if I get busy with the local whores will it affect my chances of getting jiggy with Triss?

    Could be, judging by the scars and rough look of the locals :-)

    Also, you're better off not getting jiggy with Triss.

    I, err, got jiggy with Triss, as part of a story sequence early on in the game (in Flotsam), and this was after I porked a few whores.

    I think the spirit of romance has officially died. ;-)

    I'm still pretty disappointed this never ended up on PS3, real shame. Well one to look forward to after a graphics card upgrade.
