Latest episode has again elevated this series for me, really enjoying it now.

I've been secretly watching this thread, not saying a word, and now I say this...
    THIS SHOW IS AWESOME.

I think the problem with the show is that everyone watched it with a preconceived idea that it would be all gore and no plot glory, and the pilot certainly starts as that. The first few episodes also focuses on the elevation of spartacus and it's easy not to support him as a bad ass. Problem is, people may become pretentious and think that's what all the show is about.
But, I think by episode 6 or 7, the "like the TV show Rome" references really starts to come out, and the plot begins to take centre stage (along with less flashy cinematography, but that's because there's less action).

Just seen the latest episode, and this is really a fantastic show. Anyone who claims its just throw-away stuff probably hasn't watched all episodes (just like those people who claim lost has no plot have never gone past the first series).

My biggest gripe though is that I still barely remember the names (that's the problem with roman names).

Oh and the fact they killed his wife so early into the show

I watched the first ten episodes of this recently, I'd never heard of it before seeing this thread.

The first couple of episodes kind of put me off with the bad effects, less than brilliant acting. I kept watching though and I'm so glad I did, when you get past the sheer amount of tits and swearing you find there is a pretty good series underneath.

It's utterly criminal that the new V gets a longer thread than this.
The latest episode was sheer awesomeness. Revelation indeed.

Fantastic series, I love it! I don't really give a shit if it's got bad or unrealistic effects, I tend to see past that when watching movies and games (I giggle, but not much more). Season finale this friday then?

Many revelations in that episode, more for characters than viewers though, of course. Interested to see how Doctore reacts, now he knows that Barca was killed.

Is it in fact the finale next? Can't wait either way.

There's nowhere for us regular folks (those that don't download TV) to watch this and comment.

There is talk there may not be a season 2, as the dude that plays batiatis (forgotten his name) has testicular cancer.
If he recovers, then there will be a season 2.

Part of me almost wants it to finish for good next week. It's been ramping up week after week, I'd rather they ended it all next week rather than stretch it out for 2 -3 with pointless filler.

No way. If they can escalate the legend of spartacus whilst keeping the story fresh (and somehow bringing back his wife), I'm all for it.

Jeeeeeesus Christ, what a load of shit.

Dialogue is woefully bad and quite hilarious in places. They all talk like a combination of Yoda and Ron Bergundy except in a deep gruffly voice presumably designed to make them sound manly, but is in fact closer to that straight-to-video "bad guy voice" that z-list actors do.

And the CG is so crap it's almost amazing. My favourite bit was where Sparticus knocks a horribly superimposed 2D arrow sprite away with his shield.

    john hannah has cancer too?
the guy who plays spartacus was recently diagnosed with non-hodgkin's lymphoma - which led to the postponing of filming of season 2 - although apparently it was discovered early enough that its very treatable

Yeah, I see your point. I thought the same too.

    :D

I can understand why people would dissmiss this series out of hand, after watching the first couple of episodes. It's very OTT with little substance to it.

The balance swings the other way though as the series progresses, and it really does develop - I'd urge people not to give up on it too hastily!

I feel exactly the same. I'm not sure if it does get better or if it's a kind of Stockholm Syndrome.
