If he's really setting Avatar as a high water mark (as he seems to be) I think we're probably in trouble.

And what's the Hollywood obsession with back story? Can't things just BE and we get to fill in the blanks with, you know, our imaginations?

Then keep using your imagination and don't bother with prequels/sequels.

Thats what I did it with the matrix.

And Twilight. Even though I have not seen it, I filled in the blanks with one hell of a nuclear holocaust.

Nothing wrong with 3D so long as they don't have tons of obvious scenes where things go towards the camera.

An alien mouth penis coming at you repeatedly in 3D may get boring after awhile I suppose.

It's the alien pilot in the crashed ship found in Aliens.

I don't mind it being 3D since it's actually being shot that way. Adding it in post-production to jump on the bandwagon is what fucks me off.

Just thought I'd share this stunning behind the scenes pic of the Jockey from Alien on aicn today:

I only hope they use the same kind of practical stuff in these prequels.

Kind of shocking that someone like Quint hasn't seen that before. o_0

It's not a full size set, it's actually scaled to look bigger by using Ridley Scott's kids in place of the main actors in spacesuits. Doesn't really make it any less awesome though!

Do they know anything about film at AICN?

Yes, much better to jump on the bandwagon in the pre-production stages.

Looks as though Gemma Arterton is in contention for the lead. I know she's been dire in most things but anyone who's seen Alice Creed will know she can be a dynamite actress.

The Resident Evil films. I'm one of the reasons they keep making them.

Ugh. I'd rather see Russell Crowe in drag playing the lead than her.

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

    She'd be a good choice.

Gemma Artenton is one of the few woman in the world who I find so fit that they actually make my balls feel funny when I look at them. Dunno how suited she is for aliens though.

    Hush you ponce

I don't know who any of those people are, but my money's on the film being crap. The last alien film was complete garbage, so I don't know why you'd be holding out high hopes for this.

WARNING THIS FILM IS GONNA BE DIRECTED BY RIDLEY SCOTT

For every good film he does at least 3 shite ones. Since Black Hawk down hes been over teh place in terms of quality: Matchtsick Men, Body of Lies, American Gangster, A Good year, Kingdom of Heaven, Robin Hood none of them I would classify as Brilliant.

Hes a patchy Director with a few good films and very overrated.

Alien though to Scotts credit is a timeless classic, the thought of him cashing in and doing it all again CGI bullshit style with teenage guts n gore makes me shudder.

The Alien franchise is dead just leave it be.

Lets not crap over the memory of one of the best sci-fi horrors ever made. Just re-release Alien at the cinema for fucks sake.

I think it'd be great for the franchise to have a chance to redeem itself. With the last two, it's not like it has a reputation to uphold.
