    Chris Christie attacking Boehner right now after the House GOP killed the Sandy relief bill (no, seriously). Seems to be doing a good job of positioning himself as the non-insane Republican. Christie 2016?

    Interesting idea, but I don't think he'll get through the primaries, particularly if the GOP retains its current loon quotient. But hey, maybe, hopefully, some soul searching will be done in the coming couple of years.

    Obama's announced the gun control measures he wants to try to implement:
    *reintroduce an expired ban on "military-style" assault weapons, such as those used in several recent mass shootings
    *limit ammunition magazines to 10 rounds
    *introduce background checks on all gun sales; currently private sales and some sales at gun shows, constituting about 40% of the national total, are exempt
    *pass a ban on possession and sale of armour-piercing bullets
    *introduce harsher penalties for gun-traffickers, especially unlicensed dealers who buy arms for criminals
    *finally approve the appointment of the head of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
    And apparently a lift of a ban on federal gun violence research (why the hell there was a ban in the first place is baffling, but there we go).

    There was a ban because the NRA got some of its pocket politicians to defund any govt research into the topic. Going so far as to prohibit compiling and releasing numbers for others to study.

    As I'd there might be anything in those numbers which would harm the NRAs 'guns are great' argument.

    Ironically, the measures he's proposing on gun control have quite a few on the right bemoaning the new ear of tyrannical monarchy.
