There'll be different focus with the debate topics, but they'll both get opening remarks again. If Obama can challenge just a couple of the factual errors of Mitt's argument, Mitt has the choice of wasting time debunking them or trying to ignore them. It's not a great position, either way. But Obama needs to command and be authorative this time around.

Past debates are rarely a game changer fior those elections. Romney may close on Obama nationally but the battleground states need something of a magnitude grater than passed debate win bumps to help Rmoney at this stage.

This debate was basically sound bite regurgitation. Future formats ought to see Romney put in a position where just blythely bullying out words ain't gonna cut it.

    I thought was a 47/47 split now.

I think it's 47/47 in the Gallup, but some have him leading I think. Either way, he's turned round what was a big deficit (nine points, I read).

Really hoping it's just a post-debate bounce (well, it definitely is) and Obama steps up soon.

Mitt's latest speech has been absolutely the core of what his whole campaign's been about - criticizing Obama without even beginning to mention what he would really do differently. He's said the US's foreign policy must change, without actually saying how or where it should. I think this is something they should really push for in the final debate - actually directly challenge him to state what he'd do.

It is getting quite worrying now, though.

    Dear Lord.

I'm reading between the lines and saying she wants Romney assassinated.

I think it's great, I laughed out loud at it. It's only going to air during ad breaks for The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, I think they're just having a bit of fun really.

Obama supporters are properly freaking out now. He's down in the important polls with less than a month to go.

He's still winning in the important states though, so need to go into full panic mode.

Saying that, Romney's improving numbers could well be the point where at least one party realises they can completely dispense with facts, honesty and whatever they were adamant about five minutes earlier.

I think it's still looking good for Obama. I cannot fathom how this is even close though.

Don't think anyone's really freaking out. The polls still aren't really indicative of anything - it could be a trend or it could be a bump. Will be a couple of weeks before anyone can start freaking out.

Well, I think some are. Like Andrew Sullivan. But then, he freaks out a lot, so maybe it's just his thing that he does.

Well, I've enjoyed a lot of his writing, even though he's occasionally on a hysterical high horse. But at any rate, I was just offering him as an example of one fairly prominent Obama supporter freaking out.
