Didn't you know that it's unlucky to create a thread about a quarter final match.

hmm, don't care who wins to be honest.
In a way it would be nice to see England go through, but as my sweepstakes/bets are on Holland/Sweden i don't mind.
Plus, if England go out, at least the whole footy madness will calm down a bit. I enjoy watching a good game, but i don't much like the hype and news and stories and TV coverage and interviews and everyfuckingthing surrounding football.

But, i'd probably put money on Portugal to win tonight.

Nearly there. Amend to "The best team on the night will win" and we're agreed.

I predict a 17-0 scoreline to ENGLAND, with the young boy wonder ROONEY ROONEY ROONEY (you have to shout his name three times now - IT'S THE LAW) getting at least 15 of them. Oh, and one of his shots will fly so hard downward off of the crossbar that it'll burrow into the ground, and in doing so reveal the secret lair of Osama Bin Laden (don't worry, a russian linesman will still give the goal).
And during the half time interval he'll invent a cure for cancer. While juggling chainsaws.

Why, now you ask, yes: I did find a tabloid newspaper lying around on the bus this morning.

    However did you guess?

Course, neither of them would have stood a chance of winning if Wales had been in the finals...

Rooney'd better score because he's in my fantasy football team now.

And a Netherlands-England semi would be nice.

Have you seen this report on the BBC website?

"England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has identified who will take penalties in the event of a shoot-out with Portugal in the Euro 2004 quarter-final. "

I've got a sweepstake on portugal, which will deaden the pain a little if we lose.

You are a genius. Can I have some of your money when you inevitably score huge wealth someday?

I know how loving and compassionate you are towards your fellow gamers.

This is a tough call, if England play well and lose I and many other fans will be proud. If they play well and win I'll be ecstatic. If we play boring negative football and lose, then I'll shave my head and don my bovver boots and start a riot.

England haven't had much time to rest after the Croatia game, fatigue will certainly play a part, with only three subs allowed during a match does Sven opt for the same team, or bring in fresh legs? " Yes I'll have a couple of fresh southern fried legs if you don't mind! "

There's two semi final spots up for grabs, that are usually taken up by Germany and Italy.

Sorry, it's late and all, and I really can't work out if you're taking the piss or not.
    I mean, yeah: I'm a genius.
And I, like yourself, have no doubt that the world will pretty soon have to sit up and take notice of that (and in doing so throw a lot of money my way).

It's this "loving and compassionate towards fellow gamers" stuff I'm having real trouble with.

Hi! I'm Stevas. I believe we haven't met?

No. I think you're a kind, sweet, loving man hiding under that bullish, cold exterior. Bless you.

Have we met? Like, in real life I mean?

Because that description is just, like, so on the money, dude.

See?, I have you sussed out. Now hand over the cash, genuis.

AHEM, back on topic. Going to be a tight game this evening but I think that England could pull it off (matron! etc). There shouldn't be as much arial threat from Portugal as from Croatia and that's where England's defensive frailties were identified.

And they'll need to keep posession, because Portugal will and make England do a lot of ball-chasing.

I'd say Portugal. With Ronaldo and Deco making fools of Neville and Cole there is bound to be plenty of frees which is where England will lose it. Also I think Carvalho and Andrade will be able to keep Rooney quiet. I hope so anyway cos my fantasy football team is full of Portugeuse
