You lot seem to focused on the wrong thing. Was there a price raise or not?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

If you pay using a credit card in the shop you get the exact same amount of points like always.

No, no a thousand times no!

But now I'm probably not going to have my tossing points cards when flaming Bit.Trip.Beat gets released because wanking Amazon.co.uk cannot get the diddling things in stock!

It needs some clarification I think.

3000 points on the DSi store are £27
    3000 N-points on amazon are £29.99 (with a £34.99 RRP)
3000 points on the Wii are £21

    Yes, prices are going up.

Wii points are being renamed Nintendo points and will work on both systems. The RRP for them has gone up.

The only thing that hasn't change (yet) is direct purchase on the Wii itself. Expect this to follow shortly, otherwise there will be no point in selling the retail cards.

I'll believe it when I see it and then I'll bitch at that Codemasters rep about it.

Why don't you buy your points with your credit card Sean? Do you hate the envvironment or something?

If you can read this you really need to fiddle with your forum settings.

There was a upgrade for the Japanese shop to rename Wii points to Nintendo points. If you didn't upgrade, you couldn't get in the shop.

So when this happens over here I suppose the Wii Shop prices will be upgraded too...

Actually the DSi Shop charges are different...

    1000 Points = £9
    2000 Points = £18

OK, so I had bought two Wii 2000 points cards the other week, online for £12.59 (or thereabouts? It looks like they're between £13 and £14 online now).

& decided to try and use one of them on the dsi shop, and it treated it as Nintendo Points! So I got 2000 Nintendo/DSi Points for £12.59 instead of £18.

So yes, folk should buy the Wii Points online for cheap. and use them on the Wii or DSi or whatever they prefer. Now if I only knew how much stuff I'm likely to download from the DSi store, maybe I should stockpile some more points...

Amazon fucked up their price listing for the new 3000 points cards so I could get them for what 2000 point cards were going for before, otherwise I most certainly would buy them online as I have (well, except for the odd deal at Tesco online) in the past.

I've not turned on the Japanese Wii for a couple of days Dan234, is this a further upgrade to the 4.0 firmware?

The Japanese had their Wii Shop update last year when the DSi came out over there.

Ah, well, I didn't read the text so I don't know if they're calling them Wii point or Nintendo points or not; I just know they're still 1-1 with the yen.

The Japanese Wii website says Wii Points or DSi Points. The only reference to Nintendo Points is with regard to the Nintendoo Pointo Puripeido Kaado which comes in 1000, 3000 and 5000 point amounts.

So, no I'm not convinced that Wii points are going to be renamed to Nintendo points and the prices raised to be in line with the DSi. Looks more to me like the cards will be usable on both; the online purchase will be for one or the other and they will be separate. You're also only able to buy points online in 1000, 2000 and 3000 amounts.

As far as I remember when the DSi Shop was announced people were complaining that the points will be kept seperate as Nintendo said back then. Maybe they changed their mind but last time I heard there were no plans to combine them. (Keep in mind that this was back when the DSi was announced, which was a few months ago)

On the Wii Shop page on nintendo.co.jp:

"purchased Wii points, 1000Wii points (1000 yen), 2000Wii points (2000 yen), 3000Wii points (3000 yen) of the three types."

On the DSi Shop page on nintendo.co.jp:

"Nintendo DSi points purchased, 1000DSi points (1000 yen), 2000DSi points (2000 yen), 3000DSi points (3000 yen) of the three types."

And as for the Nintendo Points card, if you look on both of those previous pages and scroll down you can see a graphic showing 1000/3000/5000 Nintendo Points cards. If you scroll a little further down you can see "The former product, the Wii Points card, available as a NINTENDOPOINTOPURIPEIDOKADO." Finally if you scroll a little more down you can see a list of outlets selling cards at 1000/3000/5000 Yen.

So I would say the idea is to rename Wii Points cards to Nintendo Points cards and converge the prices online and in retailers.

I still don't think changing the points card name necessarily implies a change in the online one or the pricing therein; I presume if anything like this happens there will be some kind of press release to justify any such pricing increase.

The only logic I can see would be a 1-1 ratio with currency where 1000 Nintendo Points = 1000 Yen or 1000 US pennies or 1000 pence or 1000 euro cent, which isn't good enough since those currencies don't have equivalent buying power on the world market.

Yes, I'd imagine that Wii Points are just going to change to Nintendo Points at some point (once they run out of Wii Points, no doubt).

Seeing as you can definitely use your Wii Points on the DSi store, they are not two separate things. Other than the price that you currently pay for them.

So, second response from my new friend at Nintendo (he'll come to regret this...):

Dear Sean, thank you for your email.

I think I can now see how this all started, it seems that since the DSi launch and the renaming of Wii Points to Nintendo Points many retailers seem to be charging more for some denominations. I just wish I had seen the bargain price you found there before they corrected it.

Just a quick piece of information you might be interested in…

I'm not a betting man but even I'd put money on a change in trade price having something to do with it...
