    Heh, no I have a very pessimistic view of them :p. They shouldn't be stupid enough to do it again, but in all likelihood they probably would do. People really need to have it drilled into them that if it looks too good to be true, it usually is, especially on the internet.

    Guys, help.

    Since Play.com fucked up everyone's email addresses (in fact the very day afterwards) I have been recieving a UPS email to my inbox about 5-6 times a day. I use Outlook and have no desire to change (mainly because I tried once and my wife just went into meltdown at having to use a different package. So we went back).

    I can't appear to block it, and the bastards keep coming through. Sometimes Avast blocks them, but most get through to my inbox or junk mail (stupidly it lets about 5 through to my inbox for every 1 to spam folder).

    Anything I can do? It's getting tedious now as I only use that email address for shopping and I can't close it as it is the main account for my broadband (i.e. it is the master address and I don't think I can change it due to that).

    Why not just mark that email as read and delete it automatically using the rules?

    I can delete it, that's not the problem, it's just that the same one is delivered over and over and over again. As I say, around 5-6 times a day. I'd rather stop this shit getting delivered, as with so many of the bastards coming in I'm bound to make an error one day and click on the wrong one, or the wife will forget all about the conversation we had tonight, wonder what we've ordered from UPS and open it up.

    I'm not talking about you doing it, I'm talking about you getting the system do to it automatically. You'll never even know it's arrived. You'll never stop it now and it doesn't matter what software you're using unless you can find some sort of way to block it mail server side.

    Seems a bit extreme worrying about it really. It's malware spam, even people who have never given out their email addresses can get it.

    You say that, but I've now gone 16 years of having numerous email addresses and never having a virus emailed to me. I've had a very small amount of spam, perhaps one email a month, but never anything malicious. I've always chosen quite random email addresses for that very reason, and careful about who I give it out to.

    This email address in question I've had for over four years, and never had one piece of spam into it. This virus keep getting emailed to me is rather annoying me as a result, and my wife, love her as much as I do, is one of the idiotic computer users many of you harp on about in techie threads.

    I've tried teaching the spam filter to recognise it, but it won't, I've set up an auto-rule to forward these messages to the spam filter, but it doesn't always capture them (even though the subject line is always the same). It's more frustrating than a massive cause for alarm, although the potential for it being opened in a week when she's forgotten the conversation is there.

    Actually I did receive a virus via email once, I'll correct myself there. Just remembered I had one in my hotmail account a couple of years back. Still one in 16 years is pretty fucking good I think.

    Forget spam rules, if you're using outlook just set up a custom rule to mark the mail with that subject as read, and then delete it.

    Tools -> Rules & Alerts -> New Rule -> Check Messages When They Arrive...

    ...and from there use your common sense to set up the rest.

    Yeah, I've done that though. Set up a custom rule to move it immediately to spam. It doesn't do it though. It does about one in six, but five still get through. I don't know why, it's always the same subject line so I've just told it to stick "UPS" in spam, but it's not always picking it up.

    I've no idea whether they're doing something clever to get around that, or if Outlook just isn't playing ball. I use rules a lot so I don't have to manage my mailbox that closely, especially at work, but for some reason this just isn't working.

    I'll check them out tomorrow. I don't think I've got any conflicting, as really it should either grab them all or none, rather than just some. But then I can't see how they could get around the rule either, even with something clever, as it's just looking for text. So it is probably something odd happening, that I've created.

    On top of UPS I've just had another courier company one, again with a virus attached, but Avast caught it. So I'll have to add them as well.
