Pirelli have already stated that they wanted it done in 'secrecy' of the public and media, so the whole 'unbranded vehicles' thing would make sense from that point of view anyway.

Doesn't mean that the FIA weren't informed.

I'm not saying anyone was innocent or guilty, but whoever wrote that 'everything was white branded, nobody was allowed near it to watch' clearly didn't want to use the evidence that Pirelli had instructed it to be done outside of the public and media's watchful gaze as it wouldn't have fitted with their agenda.

I reckon there is a way out for Mercedes, here. I reckon it all depends on which rule supersedes which.

I believe you can't just cherry pick from one rule or the the other - that is to say that if the rule about Pirelli being allowed to run a test with a team supercedes the sporting regs, and doesn't explicitly state which chassis they can use, then the FIA cannot then say "well this bit is unclear, so we'll dip into the sporting regs to get the bit about not using this, or last season's chassis". It's either wholly one, or wholly the other.

Either the sporting regs come out on top, in which case it's a no go. But my suspicion is that the emergency 1000km test rule supersedes this, doesn't contain any specifics about which car not to use, and BAM, there's the loophole.

Brawn alredy knows they'll get out of this ferrari have been caught doing an even more secret tire test as I posted above, now they can't punish mercedes without punishing ferrari as well which should be interesting to watch.

....aside from the fact that Mercedes reportedly used a 2013 chassis, a big no-no, and that report states a 2011 chassis for Ferrari, which doesn't go against the sporting agreement.

It's the use of a current car, and any advantage gained, that's the sticking point.

2011 chassis, but did it have 2013 Aero parts on it? Lots of questions not much in the way of answers.

So let me get this straight. Ferrari have been let off the hook by the president (Todt) and Merc have been passed on to the FIA independant tribunal to be investigated so that Todt can be seen to be impartial.

    What?

For the record I think its all a farce to force Pirelli in to signing up for next year on terms that Bernie likes. This may all backfire on them massively, and i almost hope it does.

Ah, so Red Bull found out about the Mercedes test because Rosberg told Vettel. Interesting.

If you go with a single supplier for every team you give them a lot of power over the entire championship. If they push this too hard pirelli will just walk away and I really can't see why any other tyre manufacture is going to want to supply tyres for F1 next season if this is how they are going to treat a tyre maker for testing new tyres the teams asked for.

So Vettel is a snitch. Guess Rosberg knows to not talk to him now.

Done my predictions for this week. Looking to beat my masterful score of zero last time.

I've got a horrible feeling that because F1 is out of options for next year, Pirelli will get away with it and will not be held accountable for any of this controversy, and Mercedes will take the full brunt.

@altitude2k I would love to see what they will get Mercedes on then because they haven't technically broken any rules unless there's something that hasn't been leaked to the press yet.

It takes time to build up a non-existent case against a team that hasn't done anything wrong and it's even more difficult this time because Ferrari have already been let off the hook for conducting there own even more secret test.

I always said since Jean Todt stepped up to head the FIA that F1 could really do with some more Ferrari bias.
