Excellent Solid, I've no idea how it works yet but hopefully we're in the same league.

Peter to McLaren? Who are Ferrari going to pick up? Seems crazy.

Also, not a bad deal for McLaren, Hamilton doesn't seem to be much of a team player, Perez may do well for them.

And is a game of Russian Roulette on Andriod, works on some tablets, not on others. Kairosoft don't seem bothered about it.

Same happened with Cafe Niponica. I love their games, but I have to give them a wide berth now as anything older than Game Dev Story refuses to work on my Galaxy Tab 7+

great move for perez. A risk for hamilton, but how long as he been there? perhaps a change will be good for him. He and the team have been through a lot. Liegate. Spygate etc.

With Mclaren changing engine suppliers next year as well, it may be the better move for him.

With the financial aspect (perhaps he has gone for the money), mercedes are going to receive a lot of sponsorship and could give them that extra boost.

Interesting he's gone in as guarenteed Number 1, too. Rosberg must be well chuffed.

Are Mclaren changing engine providers? Or are they just having to pay Merc for them for the first time?

Last rumour I heard was that they were going with their own engines.
  • Deleted user 28 September 2012 10:00:23
yeah thats the last i heard too. Still i should imagine there be a load of suppliers willing to get the McLaren brand racing there engines.

They're not changing engines next year.

Firstly, next year they're still using the old V8's. McLaren won't design, build and test an engine just for 1 years competition before the V6's come in 2014.

Secondly, it's not even close to being economically viable. They're massively expensive to design and build and they just don't have the income or facilities to warrant that. Their contract with Mercedes goes on for a few more years yet and they would have had to start work on the 2014 engine a while ago. Ferrari have already started dyno testing theirs, along with renault and Mercedes.

If you're Ferrari and have a dozen or so makes and models to support with your own engines (as well as being politically unthinkable to have anything other than a Ferrari engine in a Ferrari car) as well as two other teams to buy the engines and help spread the cost, then that's fine. McLaren have barely made two road going models with their own engines.

I think only Andrew Benson on BBC has said that and he's a total cock of a journalist.

Would have prefered Raikkonen or Kobayashi in that seat instead, but Perez has had a great season so far.

Well I'd say the move shows that Hamilton feels money's more important than success.
Also it's a great move for Perez.

That's a pretty mature view for Hamilton if that's the case. If you consider how much luck there is in winning or not winning a championship (see Mashalls, China pitlane, gearboxs, Maldonado and Grosjean), the certainty of money should be a bigger driver than the chance of getting another championship. He's got one under his belt after all, which is more that Sterling Moss.

I think they have been laying on thick the parallel with early noughties Ferrari to him perhaps. On paper it's a better deal for merc than it is for Hamilton we probably know about 10% of the relevant information. Definitely interesting for fans though.

It's good for F1 but Eddie Jordan will be even more insufferable now, I didn't think that was possible.

Button must be worrying about how next year'll go down. If Perez is really that good he could overshadow him, but he could end up making the team his own if Perez struggles a bit.

It'll be interesting to see how Hamilton conducts himself at Mercedes, they may be a lot less forgiving of his tantrums than McLaren, considering the latter raised him from a pup, so to speak. Of course if he brings the results they'll probably indulge him.

If Hamilton throws a hissy-fit at old Norbert, I have a feeling he'll be wearing dark glasses and walking with a limp for a few weeks.

Fantastic chance for Perez, but does this now mean Ferrari have to keep Massa? Bit of a talent shortage further down the field, so many money drivers.

Probably. I always thought it would be quite interesting to see how quickly the Ferrari decision came after the Hamilton one. Massa seems like the most risk averse option which I suppose is the Ferrari way.

Also agree that button is in a slightly more tricky position than before. Going from a teammate who is pretty much universally viewed as being quicker, to pretty much an unknown quantity puts more pressure on him. He can't really win

I'm not so sure this move is any more of a risk than staying at McLaren. Based on the last few years, they've been alright, but whether it's pace or operational errors they always seem to fall short.

With a desire to win like Lewis', would it be any better to be in the perpetual 2nd best team, than in the 4th best team? Year after year McLaren seem to talk the talk, but they always fall short. At least Mercedes have ambition.

Personally I would have liked to see him go to Williams and have him help them realise their former glory.

After all the stuff I've read and heard today this whole thing looks like a bit of a cock up for mclaren really. Another example of inflexibility, risk aversion and oil tanker-like maneuvarability

I'm pleased it happened though, was all getting a bit boring in the top seats
