    I know! Weird!

I just like to buy stuff and occasionally browse it on the Steam iPhone app.

Yeah, utter madness! I prefer to buy a game, stare at it in the Steam library for 6 months and decide not to install and just end up playing FTL and have my arse handed to me. Can't wait for Thursday.

Tell me about it! I bought Banjo Kazooie in the Xbox Xmas sale and only started playing it a couple of days ago.

I'm glad to say that I've kicked the habit! Haven't bought a downloadable game since May. Decided I'd had enough. Not interested in the Steam Summer sale.

So the sale is Thursday? Nice, it will be a good test of my reserve.

It's probably Thursday. I've been convinced it was 'this Thursday' for the past two weeks.

I have too. I am on complete purchasing lockdown unless something like Dark Souls 2 or Bioshock surfaces its head. Needless to say, I got Bioshock Infinite and promptly went through the whole thing.

Normally Friday, no? Cause you have the midweek and weekend up at the same time for a few hours at the end of the week.

I've never taken part in a Steam sale before, having been a console gamer for many years. I thought I'd try and get back into PC gaming, so I bought a load of cheap games in the recent GOG sale.

Haven't played any of them yet. Am I doing it right?

The trick is to buy games you've already completed, and preferably not even install them. But buying and not playing is a good start

Another good tip is to buy the likes of the Galactic Civs, Endless Space and Civ 5, you know, games that can go on for ages, and you know you could not possibly find the time to play.

That rule has stood be in good stead for years!

Here is another tip for the Steam summer sale: Don't buy games unless they are a daily or special deal on the Steam front page.

In a Steam summer sale games that are already discounted can still become a daily or special deal and get even cheaper. On the last day of the Steam summer sale there is usually an encore sale, so that's the last chance to buy all the games you want and didn't have bought already.

Oh, and if you want to receive an (almost) instant email notice if a game drops below your personal price preference, I recommend creating an account and a waitlist on http://isthereanydeal.com

Helps me alot keeping track of all the deals that interest me, not only from Steam but also some other online game shops like Greenmangaming, GetGames, Gamersgate and so on.

Yup, Jim certainly has been top notch. In addition to that link, I find SavyGamer also to be up to scratch. This site will go into meltdown in less than 48hrs time.
