The first is terrible, the second managed to eclipse its papness.

The target audience was made out to be those like myself who grew up on these guys action flicks. Not one thing about them was anything like those movies.
    Precisely.

I loved both films. They're not amazing by any means, but definitely worth watching if you're a fan of the stars in it.

I drive an automatic 'cause I'm too cool to change gears.

I'm trying to get through the rotten sack of corn that is 'Expendables 2' at the moment. How did they make it worse than the first film? It's amazingly bad.

To pass the time and try to keep off XCOM, I compared box office takings of these two dangers to mental health against the fantastic, entertaining, buddys-and-guns-done-right A-Team and was shocked to find that both of them did better!
    Total Gross The A-Team $77,222,099 The Expendables $103,068,524 The Expendables 2 $85,028,192
What a terrible world we live in.

Why does Stallone do this to himself?
I watched Ex2 the other day and thought how much better it (and 1) was than the A team remake, which was utter, utter rubbish.

That's part of the problem. I was. These films (ok - mostly 2) just make them look like grasping old men. Rupert Murdoch could have a walk-on part and I'd not bat an eyelid. I really like Stallone - he made the first film more than bearable - but it was quite clear he was sleep-walking through this, with his eyes open.

The bit where Chuck Norris introduces himself.. dear lord.

Anyway. It's Christmas Eve, so I shall not piss and moan about it.

This post is unsuitable for those with a high rumour-sensitivity.

Haven't seen the second film but I am definitely the target audience. The first film is one of the largest piles of shit I have ever seen. It's like having poo smeared in your face by a seventy year old man in a care home.
    You're not the target audience.

Second film is vastly superior to the first. Better in every single way.

Nicolas Cage COFIRMED for Expendables 3.

Harisson Ford and Clint Eastwood have also been approached.

Watched 2 last night and thought it was awful. And I liked the first one.

The second one was cringeworthy, bringing old stars in just so the audience can say "hey, it's Chuck Norris!" before they fuck off again. It's not cool anymore, just embarrassing.

The first scene was alright though.

The films are supposed to be a big series of cameos though

Yes, but the second one was even more blatant about it. It was like they had some sort of beefcake GPS that teleported in over-the-hill action stars to say hello.

It was embarrassing too, particularly when they started breaking out their one-liners.

Chuck Norris appearing the first time was great, made me chuckle. They are pretty light hearted affairs and although two was a bit pants, they didn't try to be dark and gritty, just mindless action romps with a bit of piss taking.

I don't want it to be dark and gritty or anything. Just not embarrassing. Light-hearted romps can still be shite.
