I just read in the local news that an Austrian developer is working on a snowboarding game for the 360 which will be out this december. It's called Stoked and judging from the screens and the videos on the homepage it looks quite promising.

Has anyone ever heard of this before? I'm a bit surprised that I never heard about this since it will be out soon. Maybe it's crap and that's why but so far it looks good. Since Shawn White turned out to be a disappointment and there doesn't seem to be a new SSX on the horizon I hope this turns out to be good.

There's a preview on Game Informer but I never read that page and have no idea what to make of their opinion.

The rider on the gameplay vids is up to his knees in snow and it's not affecting him.

As soon as I saw the name I immediately dismissed it.

Well Shaun White's snotboarding (sic) ended up being poop. So this probably will too.

I'd love to see SSX, in the SKATE engine. Without all the gnarly bollocks and sketchbook shite the last one had.

Oh and firm Elise's buttocks up a bit, they were a bit droopy in the last game.

Amped 1 was my snowboarding game of choice. Hawks 1/skate for skateboarding. Easy on the manualing in video games for me. Not a big fan of linking up tricks for 1/2 hour long combos.

    How can you tell?
  • Deleted user 27 November 2008 14:34:05
Cos he's up to his knee's in snow and he's still skating around as if through polystyrene balls?

Depends on the snow quality surely?

Even the lightest powder would bunch and slow you down.

Finally a contender to take over from Amped 2? I never got around to trying Shaun White thanks to very average reviews but I hadn't heard anything about this until this morning and there flickered a glimmer of hope...

Looks like this is coming to Europe next month! I've been wanting to play this since last year, when Ubi dumped Shaun White on us, instead. Videogamer's upped a couple of trailers, and some online vendors are listing it, so there should be nothing holding it back, now. :D

Official site appears adamant. Great news.

So has anyone picked this up?

Been looking for a decent snowboard game for a while.

I've seen this in shops and was wondering if it was any good? My Mrs snowboards and fancies a new snowboard game, I was thinking of picking this up for her.

Reviews seem to be settling around the 7/10 mark, and prices have dropped to under 20 (on the 360) that I've noticed. I've been tempted myself, but with so much other good stuff out there I doubt I'd ever get around to this despite loving snowboarding games.

7/10 is good enough for me. I see tesco have it for 23 so I think I'll pick it up on the way home from work tonight.

I havent played a snowboard game since coolboarders 2/3 on the ps1 so I may be in for a shock.

You could probably pick Amped 3 up for next to nothing now. It was a little bit on the "extreeeeeeme, duuuudes" side but enjoyable nonetheless. :)

I always thought amped looked like tony hawk without wheels. Where stoked looks more of a skate type of game.

Might be wrong as I've not played either...

I got Amped when it came out, and found it thoroughly enjoyable. Even the surrealism was OK, at least it was something unique. And sometimes it's OK for games not to take themselves too seriously. :)

You'd probably have a hard time finding Amped 3 outside of the second hand bins anyway, so it's probably moot.

Just looked on amazon and it's pretty Cheep there. But both games seem to take a diffrent approach to the sport so I may have to give them both a go.

Yeah, if you can pick the pair up for 25 or so you'd have enough Snowboard action to last a fair while.

Also: Amped 3 has a 'hospital' mode where you fling yourself off a ramp at the top of a mountain and have to break as many bones as you can on the way down. It's just a throwaway mode, so don't panic that the whole game is like that, but I spent hours and hours on that mode alone. :)

After reading a few reviews on both games, I've placed an order on amazon for Amped 3 and will be picking up stoked later today.

These should keep me going until skate 3 is out for my next extreme sport gaming needs.

If the hospital mode is anything like hall of meat in skate 2 then me and my partner will be very happy with that.

I loved Amped 3 simply because it was so gleefully silly. The 'story' was done in such fun ways. The snowboarding wasn't bad either.

Just got Stoked through as a rental. It's alright but pretty hardcore - you feel like you're actually at a snowboarding resort, you can tell this has been made by snowboarders for snowboarders. Not as intuitive as Amped, but still OK if you're in to snowboarding games. Graphics are fine and do the job.

Just picked this up for 10.

It's a bit like Skate but not as good. It's been a while since i've played a snowboarding game, it feels like a snowboard game and not a crazy SSX style speedfest.

The weather changes as the days go on and you can get a helicopter to points and freeride. Haven't played too much yet but seems like not a bad game, not great though.
